The Calling Series By Caridad Pineiro and musings about other vampire authors

I am always on the lookout for a new vampire series (well, new to me, as in one I haven't read yet). I have heard Caridad Pineiro writes really well, so I think I may check out her Calling series.

I just finished Kathryn Smith's Brotherhood of Blood series with my review copy of Night After Night. I was sad to see the series end, it was fabulous.

Soooo....I am looking for more vampire books to read.

I tried LA Banks, they seemed so cool but they just didn't grab me. Not bashing or being like racist or anything but the urban slang really slowed down my reading (I am usually a speed reader). It just made it really hard for me to read the books though I loved the characters and the premise...it just didn't...I don't know....do it for me.

Same with Sherrilyn Kenyon's novels. While Archeron sounds great, the whole Greek god pantheon has been overdone to death. I grew up on Greek mythology, used to be fascinated with it. Now I am just sick of it. So when I grabbed Sherrilyn Kenyon's stuff and found out it was loosely Greek and other mythology that killed it for me.

I haven't been able to get all of Charlaine Harris's books at one time from the library so I haven't read those yet.

Kerrelyn Sparks...I've read a few of her books. I liked Be Still My Vampire Heart. Also read Vamps in the City. Liked them...but not enough to read them all. I don't know... maybe I'll go back and give them another try. All I Want for Christmas is a Vampire looks interesting.

Same with Lynsay Sands. I read a few and it's like "OK, they were good but..." The Argeneau vampires are a peculiar bunch yet they just aren't ballsy enough for me. The books are on my "Come Back to Later" list.

I seem to like more action...Laurell K Hamilton, JR Ward, Jeaniene Frost, Kresley Cole- those have action and romance (and sex :-) and are a little tougher than some of the light chick flick style reads.


Now I'm not bashing anyone. I do like all of the above mentioned writers. They all have their own unique style and vision of vampires which is so ultimately cool. And like I've said I have read some of their work and found it to be worth reading. Just not perhaps worth reading every single one of their books at that moment.

It might have been stress it could have been many things. I do plan to go back and give them each another try in the future because a good vamp read is worth a second chance.

Right now I'm on the look out for something that will really grab me cause my attention span is slipping. Probably because of the holidays and stress but I really need some serious escapism to dive into.

Computer issues. I am still toiling with dial up. High speed is only available in my area through two companies, both who want to charge me over $200 to get set up. You would think I live in the boonies, but I don't. I just happen to live by an expressway overpass and I guess they haven't run the wires through here because of that. That's the only think I can think of.

Anyway...
