I Am Cursed: Our Garage Got Robbed

I've mentioned before that I feel like my family is cursed, we seem to have incredibly bad luck.

Earlier this year my Motorola Razr cell phone almost burned our house down, of course Motorola did nothing about it.

Now, we discovered our garage has been robbed. Seriously robbed.

Currently we have tallied the items missing and we're looking at between $7,000 and $10,000 worth of tools.

Some things which can never be replaced.

This was decades worth of tool accumulation- my dad's tools (he passed away 30 years ago), my step-dad's tools (he passed away 3 years ago), my husband's tools, and my oldest son's tools which he just started gathering.

This was years and years worth of birthday presents, Christmas presents, Father's Day presents...

Some bastard just stole years of gifts and memories from hard working men.

Thieves are the lowest form of humanity. I truly believe this. You know you want to steal go pull a Robin Hood and steal from the rich bastards who can afford to buy new things.

Don't steal from hard working people who have worked their asses off for everything they have.

They even took things that belonged to my husband's friends and my son's friend (you know how guys share tools and stuff).

The worst thing is we don't even know if insurance will cover it.

One we can't get a hold of anyone at the insurance company because its the weekend and two we've never had to deal with something like this before so have no idea how it's going to work.

We called the police and you know the fat bastard didn't even get out of his car and look around. He just sat there and took notes told us to make a list and bring it up to the station.

Unbelievable.

I understand Mt. Morris cops are overworked right now- drive bys, shootings, hit and runs, and all the assorted bullshit but really we aren't worth the guy even getting out of his car?

It really is time to get the hell out of this shit hole of a place. It just sucks my family has live don this land for sixty years or more- well since the 1940s.

But the area has gone to hell. We never had problems until about 5 years ago when things started going seriously downhill, the economy took a nosedive and the neighborhoods went right along with it.

I hate giving up my history but if we don't leave we might not have anything left by the time the thieves clear us out.

Next time it could be inside the house and not just the garage. But we're upgrading our security system again and thinking about getting a dog- a big one. My allergies be damned.

Anyway- this is what we're missing (at least what we know so far- hubby and son are trying to make itemized lists iof exactly what was in the tool boxes, not an easy feat, plus we're trying to find paperwork and recipts to come up with model numbers, even brand name on some stuff)-
anyone in Flint, if you see this stuff at a pawn shop or on Craigslist let me know.

Keep your fingers crossed that the insurance will cover this stuff. If not we are so screwed because we have to replace everyone else's tools, generator, boat motor, etc in addition to our own stuff.

That sucks so bad there aren't words. I'm sorry though. This is the time to start trolling craigslist looking for recent ads that might have your stuff in them. If you can find anything identifiable you can report them to the cops. Not an easy task to identify stuff if it hasn't been etched in some way but worth the try to catch the bastards!
All my best wishes in doing just that and that insurance will be helpful in some way!!!

Yeah I agree that thieves are among the lowest form of humanity. My mother owns a store and what we caught on the camera lately is pretty freakin' unbelievable.

Imagine this, an 8-9 year old girl that is encouraged stealing for her father. He's keeping the employee at the counter busy while the kid fills her pack sack!! Then the child comes and see him then he whispers: "same thing", then she leaves again and fills her back pack some more. And then she goes to the candy store and grabs some stuff while he is looking at her stuffing her pockets.

Someone call the police and the children's aid!!

After all that, I hope that your insurance will cover this, but it's a frustrating process. Don't let yourself push over because they take advantage of that.

Best of luck

I hope the insurance company are better than that cop and at least you can get some compensation.
