Cowboys: undeniably sexy - a guest blog by Michelle Beattie

What is it about cowboys that we find so appealing? Is it the sight of one sitting tall in the saddle, up on the hill with the sun setting behind him? Is it the hat? The boots and spurs? The code they live by? The Wranglers? (hmm, Wranglers!)

Since I've always been drawn to them, and yet wouldn't really want to live their life, it fascinates me why I'm so attracted to them, why, to me, they are the ultimate in sexy. So, whether we're talking historical or modern cowboy, I've come to a few conclusions about why they continue to grab the hearts of females young and old.

1) The commanding presence they have. Be it on a horse, or walking through corrals, they have a confidence, an essence, if you will, that is completely different than a man in a suit. It's rugged. It's edgy. It's hot!

2) The hat. Yes, the hat. Is there anything sexier than a man looking at you from the shadows of a Stetson? It adds mystery, it adds to the whole package. Don't you just want to tip that hat back, gaze up at that face, feel the stubble?

3) Well, I'm not sold on spurs, but I do like the boots. If you're going to wear the jeans, it can't be with work boots or sneakers, it has to be with boots.

4) The jeans. Hello! A nice round butt in a pair of Wranglers? Now that is priceless! Though Another Chance is a historical, sometimes I still pictured my hero wearing a snug pair of wipe-the-drool-of-my-chin jeans.

5) The code. The work ethic. The muscles they earned the old-fashioned way. They work hard, they help each other and they cherish their women.

So that's why I love a good cowboy. How about you?

Another Chance
By Michelle Beatti

Being a veterinarian in the late 1800’s is difficult enough, but for Jillian Matthews it’s impossible. Not allowed in the vet schools, she trained at her father’s side until she had the skills needed to move west. Jillian accepts an advertisement for a position in Montana, using only her initials which happen to be same as her father’s. Convinced that in the untamed west, her skills will be valued and appreciated, regardless of her gender, she’s quickly proved wrong.

Wade Parker is sure the pretty redhead claiming to be the vet he sent for is one of his ranch hands’ practical jokes but the fiery woman very quickly puts him in his place and proves him wrong. His impression, however, turns south when the animal she operated on later dies. With a ranch on the verge of bankruptcy, losing an animal was the last thing he could afford and he can’t help thinking the old vet, the male doctor, wouldn’t have let his animal die.

With Wade’s initial reaction guiding them, the town is quick to want Jillian out. But the more Wade gets to know Jillian, the more he sees her grit and compassion, the harder he falls for her. When Wade realizes he was too hasty in his judgment and urges the town to give Jillian another chance, he makes more than few enemies. Enemies that would do almost anything to get her out, and to make sure Wade doesn’t take her side again.

Soon threats turn to violence and both Wade and Jillian must make a stand. The problem is, at what cost?

I wouldn't want to live on a ranch or farm either (at least, not full-time!) but there is something about a cowboy that makes my heart pitter-patter. :)

Rough, rugged, and yet a gentleman.

Agreed! all the good looks in the world wouldn't matter if he wasn't a gentleman!

Ah, yes. The muscles they earned the old-fashioned way. There's nothing better!

Michelle Beattie said...

Exactly! And to see them earning them...even better!

I'm liking the jeans.

Michelle Beattie said...

Roxy, yes but they have to fit nice. They can't be droopy. Not that I need to see his pulse, but I like a good fit.

Just wanted to take this time to thank Roxanne for having me today and to those who've stopped in!

Bwahaha. Too true.

It's the attitude that I appreciate: self-sufficiency, determination, and stoicism. I'm drawn to people who have defined goals and aren't afraid to go after them.

Living in Calgary, cowboys abound. and I am always happy to take another look. I feel the same about Wranglers, Michelle. Levi's don't do it for me. But black Wranglers? Be still my beating heart.

Jan, a good attitude is very sexy. Add a strong work ethic and yep, it's a hit!

Louise, I agree it has to be Wranglers and I prefer them NOT to have a worn circle in the back pocket from a tin of snuff!
