Halloween Guest Blog and Giveaway with Su Halfwerk

Halloween and the Paranormal

Halloween is just around the corner. It's time to prepare ghostly and shocking costumes, to get ready to walk from one house to another, to sharpen your pumpkin-carving talents, and to anticipate the joys of trick-or-treating, even for adults.

I read once that part of the mysterious back-story behind Halloween involved spirits and their return to earth on that night to hitchhike a new body. It was explained as the reason why people dress up in ghastly guises; to confuse and drive away those spirits.

Since my first writing passion is horror, Halloween holds a special spot in my heart because it pays homage to that love.

However, I also know that not all people can stomach horror, and that's where my second passion comes in: the paranormal romance genre. In addition to the fluffy romantic feelings this genre invokes, it is also allowed to carry a bit of the darkness of horror in its fold. Sometime ago, I wrote a short love story on my blog between a man named Horror and a woman named Romance whose love produced a cute little baby girl. (You can read it here if you like: http://suhalfwerk.blogspot.com/2010/01/birth-of-para.html). By writing both genres—horror and paranormal romance—I get my fix of darkness and fluffiness in equal doses.

My latest release, Seeker, is book 1 in the paranormal romance series Unsettled. It has a dark side in the form of spirits escaping judgment and a brighter one in the blooming love story between Andrew Taylor and Adoria Hall. Vengeful spirits are escaping their keep and are possessing people on earth. They're not waiting for a fancy occasion to do so, they just do it whenever possible. Halloween for them is the time they act as mischievous as they wish through their hosts. Any of their weird behavior is considered waywardness and not a possession.

Andrew, however, knows better, and he uses the powers granted to him to get rid of these spirits. And even though the cost is high, he's willing to pay it, for in the midst of his duty lays his target, his goal; the one he seeks.

Seeker
By Su Halfwerk
Genre: sweet paranormal romance

Blurb:

The only obstacle in his quest is his heart.

Andrew Taylor has it all. A flourishing acting career, a stunner of a model as a girlfriend, and a countenance that swoons women right into his arms.

Except, this is not the only life he’s living. He is also a Spirit Hunter tormented by the murder of his wife and daughter and destined to hunt rogue spirits, seeking the one who destroyed his family. Even if that means repressing his needs.

Adoria Hall’s life is turned upside down after an unfair layoff from her job.

Financial pressures force her to accept babysitting a spoiled actor like Andrew. Or so she thinks, until she discovers a lonely heart beating beneath his glamorous façade. Protecting Andrew’s life from harm is her duty, safeguarding her heart is her compulsion.

When the spirits drive the war to Andrew’s turf, he must confront his key enemy to settle the score. Yet, if forced to pick, will Andrew choose to exorcise the one he seeks or will he opt to protect the one he adores?

Z's Undead Halloween Bimbo Bash

Z's Undead Halloween
Bimbo Bash
will be undertaken
at the final resting place of
Old Hollywood

Undead Hollywood Replies:

From Tallulah Bankhead:
Only if it's no costume, and no clothes, required.
That would be SCARY.

From Mae Vamp:
Depends, dear. What are you offering?
I only like two kinds of men, domestic and imported.

From Ann Landers:
No thanks. At every party there are two kinds of people—those who want to go home and those who don't. The trouble is, they are usually married to each other.

From Oscar Wilde (on not getting invited):
Hear no evil, speak no evil—and you'll never be invited to a party.

From Carol Matthau:
No thanks. The dying process begins the minute we are born, but it accelerates at your dinner parties.

From Groucho Mark:
Sorry. I'm always afraid that the moment I leave, I'll become the life of the party.

From V, the alleged Rudolph Valentino:
Thanks for the invite. By the way, your disinvite is already in the mail.

From Z, the hostess:
Sorry, self. For it to be a party, at least one of the guests has to have a pulse.

Gossip Ghouls Zombies and Lipstick:

Never make out with a chick's boyfriend at her own funeral.

I mean, it should be a law somewhere up there with not stealing another girl’s lipstick or swiping her bra.

It’s just wrong. And anyone with the least degree of common sense, living or dead, should just know it—without the corpse having to spell it out for them.

But apparently these girls never got the text message because there I was, lying in my designer coffin, complete with gold trim, cell phone in hand, seeing every word they texted while they were supposed to be crying for me. Everyone knew that dying was the one way for any girl to become popular, no matter how much of a pariah she was, but these chicks were cold, colder than I was, and I was the freakin’ corpse.

In the Mood for Halloween?

In the mood for a few sexy tales of love, lust and the paranormal- set to a Halloween backdrop?

Then look no further than Eternal Desire and A Halloween to Remember- both are erotic paranormal novellas set at Halloween.

Eternal Desire has an added bonus of being set in New Orleans- it's funny one of the characters, Christien, stays at the Royal Sonesta hotel which is where I just reserved my room for Authors After Dark 2012. (squee)

Eternal Desire Blurb:

Liz Beth, a paranormal researcher, is haunted by the seductive vampire, Quillon, who may or may not be real. She arrives in New Orleans the week of Halloween to search for the elusive vampire of her dreams and instead encounters a handsome stranger, Christien, with whom she begins a passionate affair with.

Soon she is torn between her dream lover and a flesh and blood man, both of whom are a mystery to her. The closer it gets to Halloween the wilder things become. LizBeth gets closer to the truth about Quillon while Christien has her under his own spell.

Will all be revealed at the Vampyre Ball or will the masks stay in place?

In New Orleans at Halloween anything is possible.

A Halloween to Remember Blurb:

What says Halloween better than a wild party at an old Victorian mansion complete with its own cemetery?

Perhaps meeting the man of your dreams thanks to the magic of Halloween.

Adena can’t believe her eyes when she spots Dimitri in the library- he looks like something straight off the cover of a historical romance novel-the type of guy she’s always dreamed of. Too bad he disappears before she has the chance to introduce herself. When she finally spots him again later that night she decides she’s not letting him get away again.

Adena thinks she’s finally found the one. Until she wakes up alone the next morning- in the cemetery.

Halloween magic brought them together but will it be strong enough to keep them together?
