Release Day Blitz Her Heart's Secret Wish

What inspired you to become an author?

My Portuguese teacher, back in 8th grade (I’m Brazilian and the school system in Brazil is a little different than here in the US). She passed on the class a project to write a short book. I already was an avid reader, but had never written anything. After that, I never stopped writing.

Do you write in different genres?

Yes, though all within the New Adult category. My first and second releases are Contemporary Romance, my third will be Paranormal Romance. I also tackle on Urban Fantasy.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Richelle Mead. She’s my idol. Every word she writes is perfect ;)

What book are you reading now?

The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines. Hooooot!

What books are in your to read pile?

Too many to count. But the ones on the top (though totally random) are: Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Fated by Allison Noel, The Secret of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen, The Big Smoke by Cally Jackson, Hounded by Kevin Hearne. Seriously, I have over 60 ebook on my kindle to be read.

What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

I have a Paranormal Romance (Destiny Gift) coming out in April. It’s a trilogy, so I’m working on the sequels. I’m also working on a manuscript under the working title of Breaking the Reins. It’s about a girl who has an abusive boyfriend. There are horses, polo, ranches, drama and kissing!

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I can share the unrevised blurb of Breaking the Reins. Here it is:

Twenty years-old Hannah Taylor’s life revolves around horses, balls, mansions, tea parties, and all around fakeness. Before others, her family and her relationship with Eric is perfect. But she knows the truth. She lives the truth.

When alone with Hannah, twenty-five years old Eric Bennet, a world famous Polo player, is possessive and authoritarian. Despite her best effort to disguise it, Hannah is afraid of him and of the power he has over her and her family.

Then twenty years-old Leonardo Martinez shows up for a Polo tournament. A cocky rookie, he isn’t fazed and keeps staring at Hannah, even when Eric makes it clear she is his and won’t tolerate this kind of behavior. Hannah suffers for Eric’s jealousy, and it only gets worse when Leonardo swipes off the title of best Polo Player of the world from under Eric’s feet.

Though, the title doesn’t seem enough for Leonardo. For some reason, he wants Hannah. And she can’t deny her attraction to him either. Somehow, she must find a way to break free from Eric, before he breaks every bone on her body. Literally.

I came up with it a few months ago, in 2 minutes and never revised. But I think it’s almost good, to have an idea of what’s the story is about.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Not writing itself, but it’s part of this whole writing thing: revising. I freak out and think it’s all messy and it looks like a maze I can’t get out of. Sometimes I just need to step away from it for one day or two and then it’s all good again. But still, this task seems more daunting than writing the first draft.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Read craft books, read books outside your genre. And read some more. Read a lot. And practice writing. Write short stories, novellas, random scenes, anything to keep you tuned and also to keep the creative juices flowing. And never ever give up. Every word you put down on paper means you’re getting better at writing.

About the Author:

Juliana is a Brazilian girl living in Connecticut.

She would love to be Wonder Woman, Cheetara, Elektra, Buffy, Phoebe, She-ra, Rose, Korra, Cornelia, a blood elf shadow priest, and other various kick-ass female from comics, TV series, movies, books and games, but she settles for—the less exciting but equally gratifying life—a wife, mother, friend and a writer. Her heroines are like the ones cited above and she also writes about the heroes who drive them crazy—and occasionally hot.

Since her first stories, she wrote about 20-something year old protagonists. Nowadays, besides writing full time, she battles for the recognition of New Adult as a category.
