When most people think of angels, they
think of white robes, angels, halos… maybe harps. Probably a cloud or two and
maybe some pearly gates.
Me? I tend to think of warriors. Men with
a strong sense of right and wrong, who will fight for what they believe in even
when it may not be the most popular thing. And as hard and fierce as they
fight, they love with an even greater intensity.
And men who have sex—all kinds, to be
exact.
I’ve always thought of angels as
representing the whole of humanity. As such, why wouldn’t there be some who
prefer to make love, to indulge in long bouts of foreplay and a slow, sensual
buildup of tension—and someone else who finds excitement in hard, fast, rough,
almost cruel sex? And why would they all be heterosexual? Why wouldn’t one of
them be homosexual or bisexual? After all, all three are present in everyday
life. To me, it makes perfect sense to see the same thing mirrored in the
heavenly host.
Of course, some people are freaked out by
this idea. Like I said, we’re used to the idea of angels as completely
non-sexual, almost androgynous. I wonder if part of that comes from the belief
that they—angels—are always watching us and, let’s face it, giving them
personality and feelings and sexuality makes the idea of them watching us just
a little on the creepy stalker side. Personally, I’m more creeped out by the
idea of someone like Metatron from Dogma
watching me (in case you’re wondering, I’m totally referencing the first
meeting between Bethany and Metatron in the bedroom—think a Ken doll, and
you’re on track).
So, yeah, my archangels are lusty.
They’re erotic. They have desires. And they’re hot.
Is there really anything wrong with that?
Yeah—I didn’t think so, either.

I fell from the Talmadge Bridge the week before I turned thirty.
I was given a choice: Go to Heaven. Go back to my life in Savannah. Or spend eternity fighting evil under the direction of the archangels.
I chose the demons--and the angels.
I chose the Winged.

L.M. Pruitt has been reading and writing for as long as she can remember. A native of Florida with a love of New Orleans, she has the uncanny ability to find humor in most things and would probably kill a plastic plant. She makes her home in Florida with one two cats—one smart, the other an idiot.
