Excerpt from Chapter 4 of Gargoyle Addiction by Livia
Olteano
Karla walked back toward our homey
sit-down area, her face the oddest color.
“What a delightful green sheen
you’ve taken on, baahni. Preparing for a nature celebration?”
She took a deep breath in and her
feet dragged until she reached her seat.
“You said you had breakfast…what
exactly did you eat?”
I was obviously going to have no
peace for amusing myself with the book. Just looking at her made me want to
reach out and grab her. Just to be sure parts of her wouldn’t fall out of place
and scatter over the floor. To my never-ending annoyance, seeing her that way
made the thing in my chest twitch.
“Want to play the good host and
make me a meal?” I quipped.
She frowned. “Just answer me. What
did you eat?”
“A small snack, on the run, I told
you.”
I smirked and lounged back into
the sofa, the perfect picture of a self-satisfied gargoyle. That fit my profile
from her books and apparently it was something she enjoyed. Reading six of
those things meant she enjoyed something and it couldn’t have been that boring
Carolyn creature. The vein at her temple twitched so nicely, I couldn’t help
myself. There was something so delightful about her fretting.
“Was it a poodle?”
That caught me off guard. “A
what?”
“A poodle. Small, fluffy, white
fur? Tiny blue tie around his neck?”
Laughter exploded out of me. Just
the notion of it, me hunting a poodle! I hadn’t laughed in so long.
“Goddamnit, Kann, stop laughing!
Did you eat Harry?”
“Why would a gargoyle eat a small
fluffy thing? Do I look like some small fluffy thing would be my meal?”
Though something small and
defenseless such as her would definitely be my thing, my body screamed with
such obstinacy I could barely listen to my own thoughts.
“Did you, or did you not, eat
Harry?”
Snort. “As if I’d eat such a ridiculous thing.”
“You’re sure?”
“My breakfast had fur but not
white. And it wasn’t small.”
“What was it?”
I fixed my eyes on the burning
black ones so keen on interrogating me. My mind kept coming up with various
possibilities of interrogation methods, all ending strangely the same: no
clothes and a lot of sweating. Snap out
of it, gargoyle.
“A bear,” I finally told her in my
most bored tone.
Her face froze, eyes wider than
the coffee table.
“You ate a bear. For breakfast.”
“Yes. I had to hurry, sadly, so I
didn’t give it the proper hunt it deserved. But it was a quick kill so I made
it up to it. Somewhat.”
She shuddered. “You just went in,
killed it, ate it, and came back? Without a scratch on you? Maybe the bear
volunteered, being so moved by your presence? Or maybe you squished him dead
with your ego?”
Impossible woman. “You do know a
bear is no match for a gargoyle, right? Nothing in your sleeper world is, in
fact.”
She eyed me suspiciously and
nibbled on her lower lip. Mmm, I wanted to nibble on it for her. Blood damn it,
the whole thing made no sense. I couldn’t want someone as badly as I wanted
her, it just wasn’t normal.
“So you’re sure you didn’t eat
Harry?”
“Quite sure. Disappeared last
night?”
She sighed. “Yeah.”
“Animals have very good instincts,
unlike you sleepers. Might have gone in hiding.”
“And why would he do that?”
Was she seriously that unaware of
her natural instincts? They must have been screaming for her to turn around and
run. They probably did by the scent of her. Yet she just sat down before me,
the picture of calm sleeper.
“He probably sensed my arrival and
hid. Made a wise decision, too.”
“Well, for the chance to go
without your charming presence, I’d hide too. You do have a point there. But
why would a pet hide?”
Run, little human. Run, make me chase you. “I’m the big, bad,
hungry gargoyle.”
Her frown was comical. “Are you
telling me that animals flee from your presence?”
“They surely do. It’s wise to
avoid a fight you can’t really win.”

Otherworlds Summons Book One
Livia Olteano
Genre: New Adult (Spicy!) Paranormal Romance
Expected Publication: July 15 2013
Book Description:
Summonari don’t trust. Under their command, they summon any number of creatures from the Otherwolds—but never trust them outside of the summoning.
Gargoyles don’t love. Fierce descendants of dragons, they function on power and fear—never love.
Karla isn’t the happily-ever-after type of girl. No territory-hungry guy is going to stick flags all over her unclaimed grounds.
Kann’s world is death and betrayal. As Dar Primus of Haus Varis, he’s expected to follow tradition but he’s not your regular gargoyle. In fact, he’s anything but.
One fateful Friday night, Otherworlds collide. Stuck together in one world or another, Karla and Kann face everything from Awakenings and turbulent love to Festnavals and bloodthirsty scorned suitors.
If there’s one thing they can’t escape, it’s the addiction to each other. And they’ve got it bad.
