Erotic Horror, To Be Continued
At first, I wasn’t sure how to classify Alpha. As a stand-alone piece, it isn’t entirely evident that it’s part of an overall horror genre, until, well. You’ll see. Realizing that readers don’t often pick up a series in the middle, that the first of the series was more obviously graphically dark, and where it’s all ultimately going, I let the original genre stand.
In terms of The Scattered Dark Series, it’s without question erotic horror, and dark BDSM. I knew, though, going into it, that it couldn’t be overtly so and convey the message I intended. I’ve gotten really tired of rote portrayals of shifters in the paranormal genre—the bad vamp who falls in love, the compassionate werewolf pushed to the brink of its humanity. I’m not satisfied with those creatures anymore, so in Journal of a Lycanthrophile and Alpha, I wanted to turn the tables a bit. I wanted to re-examine exactly who the monsters are, more specifically who they aren’t, and how we identify them.
As a huge fan of Storm Constantine’s complex characterizations of the stock creatures we’re supposed to believe are bad, I wanted to go deeper into the shadows of humans, show what they’re fully capable of, and that their vices and conceits never change face, yet are utterly despicable. In the end, my series presents predator and prey in a new light, and poses a new threat to fear in the dark.

When domme Alaine Dunham meets beautiful, young werewolf Seth, she dreams of training him to be the perfect bottom to fill her Alpha needs. She quickly finds that gentling the wild wolf is one thing; subduing the rebellious human is another. Tensions mount as the full moon pushes them to consummate their bond before relationship concerns are soothed.
After a strange book falls into Alaine's hands she begins to doubt her relationship, her instincts, and the moon.
About the Author:
Erotic mezzofiction writer, Fierce is imagination shapeshifted as a scribe taunting blank pages and carpal tunnel, neither of which are much use for deadlines. Close allies are impeccable timing and a trusty masseuse. Being a switch I/ENFP doesn’t hurt. For kicks Fierce has other personas across several genres, tends to fill in “Other” on surveys without explaining, and chooses the finality of the Japanese Tamagotchi.
