Water’s Threshold by Jillian Jacobs

1.           Do you write in different genres?

Yes, I write both Contemporary and Paranormal. I don’t think I’ll delve into any other genres.
If yes which is your favorite genre to write? Honestly, between the two, I’d pick paranormal, because you can create your own worlds.

2.           How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

Maya, my heroine has a tendency to leap without looking. At various critical points, she is standing at an actual threshold, facing a decision, step past or stay still. She’s not one to stay still.

3.           Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I wanted to categorize Water’s Threshold as an eco-paranormal. Take care of the earth, specifically fresh-water.

4.           What books/authors have influenced your life?

Sabrina Jeffries and Christina Dodd encourage people to join Romance Writers of America on their web sites, and so I did. Fantastic decision. I feel my writing is a cross between, Kat Martin, Karen Marie Moning, and Nicole Jordan.

5.           What book are you reading now?

Coming Back to You by Donya Lynne. Alpha Exposed by Anya Breton. I just finished Insidious, by Aleatha Romig

6.           What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

Fire’s Field, is the next in this Elementals series. Ember’s Center is the first in my Contemporary Series, The O-line. This features three marauders from a professional football team. Yum!

7.           Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I’ll share a short excerpt from Fire’s Field. A short un-edited excerpt:
“Good evening, Violet.” A deep male voice tinted with a faint Russian accent drifted into the kitchen and fired goose bumps across her skin.
Heart pounding, Violet fumbled the grocery bag in her arms before placing the paper hindrance on the counter. “How…How did you find me?” She peeked around the corner into the living room, and there he sat—Flint. Dressed in a fine-fitting, black suit, with a large bouquet of yellow roses wrapped in purple tissue paper, resting on his lap.
“Pillar told me you were staying here.” His pitch-black hair and amber eyes were only discernable by the flickering light dancing across his sculpted features.
“Giving her up, just like that.” Violet snapped her fingers.
“I don’t owe that salty square my allegiance.” Flint shifted his finely-honed, blacksmith body in the chair, crinkling the florist tissue.
“You’ve known her for many years.”
“Unfortunately, yes.” Flint sniffed, and picked at a yellow petal. “She may have led me here, for reasons of her own, but I would have found you. Pillar’s sudden need to redeem herself now that her leader’s been shot back to where he came from, doesn’t concern me, or allow for any pity. She’s been against us for a long time.”
“And you don’t forgive.” Violet folded both arms across her chest, remaining in the doorway between the kitchen and the living room. Caught between her wish to flee, and her curiosity to learn more about this Elemental being.
“I’ve survived too many years to worry about insignificant things like forgiveness.” Flint waved a rose bud through the air by its stem. “We live, we move on. No need to dwell or force alliances with people who don’t know their own minds, or are so warped by love lost they choose to disregard humanity. Pillar is a fool.”
“And you’ve never made the wrong choice?” How long had he lived? What kind of history did this man have? So much he could teach her, if only…
“A better question would be, do I have any regrets?”
Violet stepped into the room, drawn in by the fire’s warmth. When she shifted a candle on the fireplace mantle, she started as the wick suddenly lit. Glancing over her shoulder, she met his gaze.
He simply smiled.
“Regrets, Flint? As you say, in one lifetime, who has time for those?” Obviously anger overrode her normal reservations when speaking to a handsome man.
“Ah, but I’ve lived many lifetimes.” He tapped the wilting bud against his knee.
“So you’ve found me.” She waved her hands in the air at her sides. “What now?”
“Now, I make sure you don’t have any regrets.”
Violet stuttered out a laugh. “You won’t control me. I can easily destroy you.”
“Ah, now, my violet, that I would regret.”
