Her days are filled with every day chores of cleaning and cooking. Early paints when her children attend school. Her husband is a research scientist. There are times when she travels with him, but mostly she stays home with the children.

Tips for novice writers - First, read and read some more. You can never read enough. Then write. Write until you fall asleep at your computer. Do not listen to everyone who gives you advice. I've heard it all. But what it comes down to is what your readers love.

Chapter 1

April 7th - 9:37 a.m.

Early heard everything being said, but she couldn’t understand a word. Her mind started spinning.
Are they speaking English? Yes... yes, she tells herself, they are, but the language is different—foreign. Sounds are echoing in my ears; oh the pain! The sound hurts... It must be the level of the noise that’s confusing… my vision is blurred; I see nothing. Vagueness... haze... no wait, the room is exactly as it’s supposed to be. But where am I?

Early reached up and rubbed the side of her face. She could hardly feel her hand against her skin. Am I dreaming? Yes, that must be it. What’s the last thing I remember? Think, Early... think. Oh yes, making love with Alex. But when did we go to bed? Early could not remember going to bed after making love that night. Perhaps Alex carried her into the bedroom? No, she wouldn’t have slept through that; she’s too light of a sleeper.

Early heard a booming noise that startled her.

“Objection!” The deep male voice echoed through her ears. Her stomach began to tighten, then everything was dark again, peaceful and quiet.

April 14th - 10:02 a.m.

Early startled awake, again to another booming voice.

“Order… I demand order in my court. Both attorneys approach the bench, now!”

It’s a man’s voice, but it isn’t Alex speaking, Early tells herself. Whose voice is it? It sounds familiar, perhaps the television, did someone leave it on all night? What’s wrong with me? My children, why haven’t they asked for breakfast? Headache, my God how my head hurts.

Pain envelops her and then, again, a strange but peaceful quiet engulfs her and everything fades far, far away into the distant darkness.

May 21st - 2:21 p.m.

Early’s darkness yielded to light. Muffled noises became sharper.

There’s brightness all around me, it must be morning. Did Alex oversleep again? I really must get moving or Daren will be late for school... I just hate to be rushed. My God my head hurts.

“Your Honor, please,” a voice boomed, jarring Early from her private thoughts. “We all know how long this will take if we cannot get through at least one question without this constant interruption.”

I’m not dreaming, Early thought. That is real.…

Early glanced down and saw her hands; they were shaking. She was not in her bed. She wasn’t in her house. Where am I? Glancing around as best she could, Early realized it was not her television making the loud noise. The sound was coming from all around—front, back, and from her sides. The tips of her fingers tingled. She frantically rubbed them together, desperate to stop the strange crawling sensation running up her arms. She reached out for her warm blankets. Early wanted—needed—to feel safe and secure. But her blankets were not there. She had to be dreaming, she just had to be.

The room began to spin and a gnawing sensation nagged deep within her jaws. Floating and twirling around the room, Early felt confused and sick. This had to be a dream. There could be no other explanation. She reached out again for her bed covers but felt something hard instead of soft.

The dresser? Am I touching my dresser? What’s it doing way over here?

The more she groped around at her surroundings, the more she realized she was not in bed. She was confused and it terrorized her, sickening her even more. She couldn’t think. Her hands reached up to scratch her head, but instead she pressed her palms against her eyes to try to stop the wild spinning. The noise, muffled words... shuffling shoes... stop... please stop!

I’m sitting in a chair. Get a hold of yourself, Early.

Hard wooden-arms hugged her. But Early doesn’t own any chairs with wooden arms.

I’m in a chair, a real hard chair.

Fear was rising from deep within and spreading throughout her veins attacking the farthest points of her sanity.

“Your Honor, that wasn’t a question,” a voice huffed. “It’s clear he’s leading the witness.

I object.”

Early exhaled a deep breath slowly. After blinking several times, her eyes began to focus. She skimmed the room for something familiar—anything. She had never seen this room before. But how could that possibly be? No, something is terribly wrong. A table, a wooden table is in front of me. It’s not my kitchen table. Next to her sat a man in a dark suit wearing a bright red tie, arguing with the man standing in the middle of... of the...

“COURTROOM!” Early screamed.

Gradually the voices around her rose to the level of complete chaos before the judge slammed his gavel against his desk and commanded, “ORDER! Order in my court. Bailiff!”

“She spoke!” someone sitting behind Early shrieked.

The man sitting next to Early grabbed her arm. “My God,” he whispered. “Early? Can you hear me?”
“What’s going on? Where am I?” Early cried. “Who are you? Where am I?”

Early jerked her arm and backed as far away as she could. The bailiff hurried toward them. Early’s fear was growing faster than her mind could comprehend.

“What’s happening?” she screamed. “My God,” the stranger repeated.

“Order... I demand order!” the judge yelled as the other voices continued to get louder.

The people behind her were moving about and talking out of sync with each other. The confusion and disorder was growing as every second passed. The judge sat stunned, trying to compose himself and bring calm to the chaos. The woman, the defendant, who had been silent for the last several months was suddenly talking. The crazy, evil and comatose woman who slashed her children into tiny unrecognizable pieces while they slept, and who stabbed her husband over a hundred times, was suddenly awake and speaking. Early grabbed her ears and screamed for her husband to help her.

“Alex… Alex, where are you?”

Guest Blog: Fallen by Laury Falter

So you want to know about Eran…Well, the guy is charming, I'll give him that much. He has this knack for showing up whenever I'm in trouble, and he handles those situations with confident ease. He just swaggers in and eliminates whatever is hostile toward me. He's also incredibly handsome while doing it. That wavy brown hair, perceptive clear aqua eyes, tempting British accent, all of it.

It's just unavoidably appealing, but I would never admit it to him. Never. Why not? Here's why not…He has this cocky grin that always seems to rise up in my presence, as if he's quietly insisting that he knows more than me and I should just sit down and let him take over. As if I can't do what he's doing, as if I'm helplessly infantile in my own defense. So, yes, he may be fascinating, but he's also very annoying. I've told him this, said it directly to his gorgeous face, and yet has he changed his behavior? Has he stopped coming to my rescue? No.

In truth, if I were bluntly honest with myself, I'd have to admit I'm sort of glad he hasn't listened to me. I like when he shows up. More than like.

There's something about him, something that draws me to him in a private, personal way. I feel like we've known each other for centuries, like we've argued this way before and made up before. I feel like I've seen every one of his emotions and he's seen every one of mine, and we still accept each other for who we are.  But that's all ridiculous because we've only just met.

So, to sum it up, he's antagonizing with his protection detail and intoxicating with his presence. Deeply, inescapably intoxicating.

I'm realizing now that I've written too much already. I'm going to end my letter here and just hope this doesn't end up in his hands.

All the best,
Maggie Tanner

EXCERPT 2

“So you’re warning me away from you?” I was appalled. “Then why are you doing this…
guarding me at all? Why the torment? Why watch over me when you know that…that we should be more?” I felt on the verge of tears, which amazed me. How could pain be so sharp in the afterlife? “Answer me, Eran. Why?”

He sighed. “Because it is my job.”

I gasped, more offended than I’d ever been. “I’m a job to you?” I stared at him and waited for his head to rise but he refused to look at me.

“Yes,” he said weakly, defeated. His beautiful, rugged voice released as a whimper and the pain inside me grew. “You are just a job.”

I didn’t think it was possible but the emptiness I’d felt with Eran being gone those many weeks held no comparison to the magnitude of what I was experiencing right now.
I felt as if I had been gutted.

“No…” I shook my head. “I don’t believe you because you see, Eran, I can feel your emotions run through me. Whether you want to admit them or not, I know how you feel about me.”
Stunned, his head jerked up, his brilliant blue-green eyes drilling into mine. “You feel me too? How can that be?”

“I don’t know. But I do know that I feel in you the same emotions I have.”

He groaned and turned away. “That’s not possible…” he muttered, pausing. When he spoke again his voice was strained, determined. I drew in a breath as the intensity of these emotions ran through me. “It doesn’t matter. I won’t let this happen. This will not happen…I will not let us be together.”

“Because you are my guardian? Then let me make it easy on us…You’re fired.”

“It doesn’t work that way, Magdalene,” he said, quieter but still resolute.

“I didn’t want you to watch over me, Eran. I never asked for it.”

As if he’d become an entirely new person, his reply was flat and detached. “You’re a messenger. You require a guardian. It’s as simple as that.”

“Then we’ve just solved the issue, didn’t we?” I said causing him to finally look up. “This will be my last message. It’s from me to you…goodbye Eran.”

Turning swiftly, I walked away just before the tears came.

Excerpt:

Nora woke up from the restless sleep that had afforded her no peace or calm. She was tired and there was no two ways about it. She had been feeling restless of late. She sat next to the window and gazed at the neighborhood children playing in the street. She envied them their gaiety. She knew why she was restless and feeling insipid but she refused to consciously acknowledge it; she’d rather remain in denial.

Well, it was time to get ready for work. She got up, took a shower and tried to motivate herself to smile. Just as she had succeeded, she heard her phone ring and she braced herself subconsciously to answer it. Yes, she was right. It was Vin.

“Hello, Nora – I’m so glad you answered! How are you doing? Missed you, I want to hang out tonight.”

“I work late on Tuesdays, Vin.”

“My bad, how could I forget? Well, we can get together a little later then?”

“I’ll be too tired by then.”

“I’d really like to see you.” Nora grimaced. Why was it that the men who you looked to for short-term affairs were the ones that wanted you, and the ones you longed for something more from were the ones who weren’t interested after a few weeks?

She had met Vin at a grocery store and he had turned her on; the grace with which he moved and spoke aroused her. He also was very easygoing, while Nora was an impatient and agitated person by nature. She had learned to conceal this fact from people who met her, but it is who she was. Vin’s calm had soothed her and she had thought it worth pursuing, so, she had asked Vin out indirectly. They had seen a movie together, cooked dinner for each other at her place and gone sight-seeing. One evening while it rained and she was unable to get back to her place for an hour, she thought to herself, “What the hell…” and put out feelers to see if Vin was open to seduction. He was. So, he caressed her back and slipped his fingers into her bra. She smiled and hoped that he was a great lover, how she needed this!
He was gentle and loved to kiss for long, burning minutes. Boy, did he taste good. So, they ended up on his carpet, and somehow she was on top, trailing her tongue down his midriff and enjoying the gasps she heard coming from him. They didn’t do the full deed that night but they sure came close to it. Nora chickened out because she wondered if she wasn’t making a mistake. Vin had wanted them to proceed but he went along with her decision and called her the next day to ask her if they could get together that evening.

She had avoided committing herself to an answer because she was worried about what she was getting herself into. Vin was supposed to be her bon-bon – her good-time lover - but she sensed that he wanted more, just like her last bon-bons did. Francis had started out casual for her. She had enjoyed the attention that he had lavished on her. She had just come out of a painful relationship, and Francis was so sweet and nice. She thought, “What the hell?” and went ahead, enjoying the wonderful things they did to each other. The problem was, Francis wanted her for keeps. She wasn’t ready, and just couldn’t see herself in a long-term relationship with him. For one thing, he was too controlling and he seemed to have several female friends, which he would explain away. She could tell that he really cared about her, though. He was always trying to reach for her hands in public places and was possessive of her when other men were around. She found it hilarious because she didn’t see the big deal, she wasn’t with those guys… but then again, she wasn’t with Francis either.

The sex with Francis had been like eating chocolate éclairs, hidden but ohhh-soooo creamy. Oh damn, she was getting horny just thinking about him. What to do about Vin? He was getting worse every day. Too needy, too clingy. It was time to move on to another bon-bon. Did she really need a bon-bon? Yes, yes, her body told her. Ok, she needed a bon-bon. As nice as Vin was, what could she do with him? What she wanted was a challenge, a zing to her body. Someone who, just by the mention of his name and his voice, would drive her insane… pure and simple lust that would be the cure to her passivity and emotional dryness.

Nora’s friend, Stella had a get together/party to celebrate her buying her first home on a Friday evening. Stella was an accountant at a Fortune 500 firm and she was moving up - both in her professional field and her social circles. Nora admired Stella greatly; she was so classy and yet so down to earth. She was one person that Nora could have intelligent conversations with. Nora was looking forward to the event because Stella had an interesting mix of friends and acquaintances.

The evening arrived and she was perplexed about what to wear, and went through her wardrobe with a sense of trepidation. Nothing seemed appropriate. Finally, she decided on a pair of loose silk black trousers and a shiny blouse, which was a bit sheer. She wore a white lacey camisole underneath the blouse. Next she started to work on her face. She wanted to look natural and yet finished. The sheer look was in and it suited her better. As she dressed up, she played her favorite 80’s mix CD. It always made her feel giddy and ready to party. She played it in her car on her way to Stella’s place. She accidentally got off at the wrong exit and drove around a bit, trying to find a familiar road. Finally, after driving in circles for about 15-20 minutes, she stopped at a gas station to ask for directions.

 About the Author:

Author Princess Tia is turning heads with her recently released "Re-birth - A Collection of 5 Erotic Romance Short Stories", fusing her own experiences, fantasies and creative writing ability into a winning combination that's leaving readers breathless.

This is the first published work of Princess Tia, a pseudonym of a voracious reader who loves historical romance. Her epiphany came when she read a collection that combined historical and contemporary romance in the form of short stories.

A fire was lit when she declared, "I can do that!" She blended her sensual side into every-day scenarios and crafted stories with characters that are at once extremely engaging and undeniably passionate. The stories are not all about the erotic; their plots leave the reader totally engrossed, until the final page.

Princess Tia has successfully woven real life into art. Each story's main character is fleshed out; she seems alive! You will appreciate the little details woven into each story. This collection has aspects of the struggles of the writer's own life woven through it, as well as experiences of some people she trusts and confides in. That being said, this work is not auto-biographical, and each woman in this collection shines alone as an individual.

Princess Tia cites Eric Jerome Dickey, Ken Follett and numerous romance authors as influences, and is looking forward to producing more collections in order to explore the heights and depths of love and relationships in a way that will again leave you breathless and not able to put the book down until you reach the end and realize that you were holding your breath, anticipating the climax.

All signs are pointing toward this being the start of something special from Princess Tia. Fans of romantic and erotic fiction shouldn't miss it.

Interview and Giveaway Destiny Finds Her by Miranda Lynn

What inspired you to become an author?

I was inspired by my reading. I wanted to create worlds and characters that people could imagine and escape into. I wanted people to be able to pick up my writing and lose track of time in my world.

Do you write in different genres?

I do, Destiny is the first in the time travel series, but I also have another series in progress that is of the paranormal genre. Though they both have twists outside the normal genre stereotypes. Destiny has magic and fae twisted into it and the paranormal series will have voodoo twisted into it.

If yes which is your favorite genre to write?

I don’t think I can pick a favorite. Whichever characters are speaking to me that day is my favorite. I love them both.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

The book actually gave me the title. I didn’t know what to call it at first but as I read through it on my first revision the word Destiny jumped out at me several times. I took it from there.

Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?

For the first I waited until it was complete. With book two that may be different, I don’t have a title yet, but it’s only about a third of the way finished.

What book are you reading now?

I am currently reading Seventh Grave and No Body by Darynda Jones. I love her books!

What books are in your to read pile?

I have so many. The newest ones are The Maiden of Ireland by Susan Wiggs, Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis, The Jewel by Amy Ewing, Redeemed by P.C. Cast +Kristen Cast,  Witches of East End by Melissa De La Cruz, Serpent’s Kiss by Melissa De La Cruz, and Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. Those are just from my local library I have many more on my Kindle by some amazing Indie Authors, the most recent is Artifact by K T Bowes, Ocean’s Justice by Demelza Carlton, and Hitched by Karpove Kinrade

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Here is a bit from my current WIP.

“As you know many people call me Madame Levoux, though I am not the original. She is buried in one of the most visited tombs in the world. She is my ancestor though so I have the right to use her name. Many of my gifts I have inherited from her as well. What many don’t know is that I had a sister.”

She paused to refill her mug and mine. I was relaxed, warm, and eager to hear more.

“My sister and I were about 2 years apart, she being the older of course. We were both taught our craft from a very young age, but we had very different gifts. Hers were a bit more disturbing and she had a difficult time handling them as we grew.”

This was the reason I had come. I didn’t know my mother, but had heard many rumors about her. I had spent the last two years digging through them all and I had come to the conclusion that the only truth was the she was related to the Levoux family. How I didn’t know, no one would tell me. I didn’t remember much about her and my father wouldn’t speak of her. I asked every time he came home, but those times had been few and far between these past years.

“What was her name?” I asked

Madam Levoux looked straight at me. “Clarice”

My mother’s name. It was then that I noticed her eyes were just like mine. Tricolored. Her eyes seemed to capture me and I sank into their depths. The room faded away and was replaced with a small wooden shack. I looked around and found Madam Levoux next to me.

“I thought it easier to show you my story. Talking gets so boring don’t you think?”

I nodded and looked around “Where are we?”

“My child hood home. As I told you, your mother and I were sisters. This is our story.”

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Hmm. Well I would say my biggest challenge is putting enough description in on the first draft. I am all about getting to the action, dialogue, character interaction. I always have to go and work on the buildup of tension and suspense when I do my first revisions. I have a great support group of critique partners, editor and beta readers that help me with that as well.

Do you have to travel much to do research for your books?

I didn’t for the Destiny series, but will be traveling to New Orleans in the next couple of months to help build up the paranormal series I am writing. I am very excited about that, a quick weekend trip to soak it all in.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Don’t give up! Keep writing, the more you write the better you will get. Find a good critique partner who is honest with you and be willing to accept their thoughts and input. I had great advice given to me a few years ago and I always share it. Write the story you want to read.

Again, I want to thank Roxanne for having me, I had a blast answering these questions and I hope you enjoyed reading them.
