Interview-Hope at Christmas by Keeley Smith

What inspired you to become an author?

I’ve always loved to write but my passion for really writing a book came about due to Work Experience.  In schools in the UK, year 10 students go to work places to gain experience, I chose a publishing house.  The nest 2 weeks ever! I spent time with a local author and also write my own book! (it’s terrible! But a start!) From that moment I wanted to take up writing more seriously.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

I really struggled with the title for my book.  Originally it was going to be called Trusting You but it didn’t click for me.  Being a book set around Christmas I really wanted that to show in the title, and so Hope at Christmas was born!

Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?

I tend to pick something to title first, for some reason I can’t start a book without knowing a title.  It creates a writers’ block for me.  For example, the next book in the Serendipity Series has already been named (it might change though!) but I couldn’t write a single word without the title! Strange LOL.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

It doesn’t matter who you fall in love with.  What differences there may be between you, whether that be a troubled past, social standing or pigheadedness. Love is love. You grab it tightly and kiss the hell out of it.

What books/authors have influenced your life?

I’m a MASSIVE Nora Roberts fan.  She is without a doubt the best author of everything, in my opinion anyway LOL. I pick up her book, buy it, start reading it before I’ve even read the blurb.  She doesn’t disappoint.

What book are you reading now?

I’m currently demolishing the Original Heartbreakers series by Gena Showalter. On book 4 and loving it! If you haven’t read them but love a good, steamy romance, these are right up your street!

What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

I’m writing book 2 in the Serendipity Series and I’m also half way through a YA book about Pixies! A lovely little twist on what we expect from them.

Who designed the cover of your latest book?

I tend to design most of my covers, apart from The Pendle Hill book cover which I acquired a book cover designer for.  I really love the process of fine tuning the cover but it is hard work!

Do you have a song or playlist (book soundtrack) that you think represents this book?

It always depends on what I’m working on.  During the Pendle Hill books there was a lot of fight scenes (all magical) and I listened to fast paced music just to get my in the mood.  Generally when I write I can’t listen to normal everyday music, I tend to sing along and distract myself! So I always listen to movie scores. I love them, so emotive!
