Excerpt 3. Rated XX

"Please trust me, Grace." His voice soothed. Henri’s lips disappeared for the moment and she started to glance down towards her feet where he’d just been when her vision went black.
"What the…"
"Just let go." Ryan’s voice near her ear as he pulled the blindfold over her eyes, quickly joined by Henri’s sing-song accent brought a strong chill and shiver. “Trust me, my love. I would never, ever hurt you.”
"Yes, Grace, let go. Let us do this for you."
When one set of lips encircled her nipple and another started nibbling up the inside of her thigh, she finally did just that, sighing in relief. Letting the two men take over, giving into the moment, Grace’s entire body felt licked by flames up as the lips became insistent and the bondage chafed at her wrists.
"Ah shit, Ryan," she mumbled, not even sure what she meant but since she was in a “going with it” frame of mind, she said it.
"I’m gonna make it okay, I promise." Her husband’s voice had gone husky with lust.
She shivered, sighed and bent one leg up, allowing Henri full access to her still wet center from their earlier encounter. In a quick movement, the men changed positions. Now Ryan’s lips caressed her pussy, pulling her clit into his mouth, sucking and tasting her. She started to shift her hips, realizing he had to be tasting Henri. But the constant suction and pressure on her flesh combined nearly sent her over the edge again. Then Henri’s mouth closed over her nipple, his teeth, a quick nip, the sharp pain making her squeal and her body pulse with a sudden, knee jerk orgasm.
"Mmmmm," Ryan’s voice echoing between her legs her flush red from head to toe.
"Jesu, that was gorgeous," Henri whispered in her ear, his lips trailing around her jaw line. He ran a hand up and down her stomach past her rock hard nipples, just brushing them as her body calmed. She flexed her wrists against their bonds, wanting to touch all the male flesh around her, whimpering in frustration. But the warm friction felt pleasant, sexy even, and she arched her back, on fire with urgency.
"I want to be inside you Grace." Ryan’s was hoarse voice near her ear.
"No, I want to be inside you." Henri’s lips tickled her other ear. Grace grinned.
"Well, boys, we have a dilemma." She snuggled down into the soft pillows again, skin pebbling in anticipation. "Untie me and let’s see if we can solve it." The words coming from her mouth surprised even her. A quick flick of a wrist and her hands were free but the blindfold remained in place. Hands pulled her up, lips covered hers. She was no longer able to determine which of the amazing men was doing what, which somehow seemed appropriate.

Interview and Giveaway with Kim Luke

What inspired you to become an author?

I am inspired by other wonderful stories. The picture they paint in my mind, has always made me want to create those pictures too. I was inspired by something I wrote in my journal one winter day. That moment is when the idea of writing a book was born.  I write about that moment in a blog post called “There is fruit in the land of Uncomfortable” on my website, kimlukeauthor.com

Do you write in different genres?

My storylines are fantasy but include romance, adventure, mystery and suspense.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

There will always be those trying to balance the scales between the darkness and the light. One can never lose hope in themselves and may find that faith is a weapon.

Is the book, characters, or any scenes based on a true life experience, someone you know, or events in your own life?

My stories are loaded with parallels to my own experiences. One day when I was exercising I thought I heard background “sounds” in one of the songs in my playlist. My imagination ramped up the experience and turned it into a scene with my character Tera in Black Inferno. The experience scares Tera, and it should.

What books/authors have influenced your life?

C.S. Elliott, Truman Capote, J.K. Rowlings, Margaret Mitchell, Hans Christen Andersen, Diana Gabaldon

What book are you reading now?

Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult

What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

I am currently writing a third book in my Circle of Sun Series. Can fantasy exist on Main Street U.S.A or right outside your back door? In White Oak MO. It can and it does.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

There are not enough hours in the day to pen the stories waiting to be told. Many of my other interests have fallen by the wayside. I am trying to direct traffic in my mind and ask everyone to please be patient, I only have 10 fingers.

Do you have to travel much to do research for your books?

It is a great excuse to travel, but I thought it would be interesting to create a fantasy world that could exist in a midwest city.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Get out of your head, and put some miles behind you on the keyboard. Seek ways to improve your skills, and commit to improvement with each project.

Circle of Sun Prologue

No one will visit his final resting place. In death, as in life, his name had long been associated with broken promises, broken rules and broken lives. He embraced nothing, and was embraced by nothing. His only lasting impression was darkness, keeping even the most forgiving souls from speaking a kind word about him, even in death. A brisk October wind forces a tighter clenching of the scarf covering her throat. The only sound heard is the crunch and swish of fallen leaves as she walks to the pauper's section of the cemetery. She pauses, and kneels with devotion to the memory of Colton LaMont. Melanie clears debris and places a few flowers upon the site. Sorrowful tears fall for her undeclared love, and the parched and thirsty soil drinks.

Book Description:

The second installment in the Circle of Sun series finds the Guardians on a quest to save a city of innocent souls from potential decimation by illness and some seemingly innocuous chocolates.

As some of the Guardians are battling unseen evil away from home, their former leader and patriarch is falsely imprisoned and his daughter disappears. What does it take to recover another Fidesorb?

The discovery of a secret society of Guardians has created a new reality for Quinn Clarke and her friends in the little riverside town of White Oak. The first Quest with Quinn as the Polaris to the Circle of Sun transports our Guardians to a suspended season in time. Wearing the armor of faith, will they be able to rescue a city of innocent souls spellbound by a faceless enemy? Is the return of tranquility to White Oak after the defeat of the River People only the calm before the storm?

As new ties of friendship are laced, they quickly become restrictive and threatening. A tragic turn of events puts Romulus in danger of losing his freedom, and Sapphire is missing, leaving the Circle of Sun fractured and vulnerable.

Will a victorious Quest cost lives on the home front? What secrets lie within the lush rolling vineyards, hidden oak barrels, the Grand Royce Estate and even Fireside Books?

In the second installment of the Circle of Sun, our characters must grow into courageous defenders of light, if they are to break free of the vast and sticky web of deceit that threatens them. Their goal is to recover another precious Fidesorb so it can be returned to its rightful place in the angelic realms.

Black Inferno Prologue
Quinn can't sleep. She takes in the view of the rolling Missouri hills from her window at Royce Estate. At first glance she could be any woman, but Quinn Clarke Royce is no ordinary woman, not any more. Since discovering her family and being chosen as the new Polaris to the Circle of Sun, there is little remaining of her former life. Quinn and those she loves navigate in a new world as Guardians. The lack of sleep is a fraction of the price she will pay while growing into a leadership role that defies reality. Few days remain before the announcement of the Quest. A selected Guardian must accept before knowing any details about the Quest, and only Quinn knows a Quest can take them to a place untouched by the passage of time.
Her past days of collecting and selling books, merchandizing and marketing, are replaced by a crash course in the angelic realms. She's learned the various ranks of Guardians, Sleepers, Pathfinders and Knights and the existence of Living Stones and how they are used to measure the balance of goodness. Like opening the cover of a book and reading a fantastic tale of the battle between light and dark, her journey now spans the ages.
Quinn's homeland, identified in the angelic realm as Nadellawick is peaceful this night, but only a short time ago the battle raged, destroying the evil Petulah and her River People. The victory over the darkness and recovery of a missing Fidesorb in Nadellawick was celebrated by everyone except one. A storm brews and bubbles and a thick fog moves in from the river.

Excerpt from Chapter 3 of Mafia Encounter

Sharing a hotel with a mafia boss – even if he was a little old man – didn’t make me feel safe and warm inside. I could feel my stomach doing somersaults while we waited for the elevator. I wondered if Charlie was nervous too. He wouldn’t admit it, even if he were.
Eventually there was a ping and the doors of the elevator opened. It was empty. That was good. Well, it was good as long as no mafia guys got in before we got out.
“I think I’ll do fifty laps,” said Charlie, after the elevator doors closed.
“What about Marco Polo? I want to say we played Marco Polo in Italy.”
He looked at me like I was stupid. “Marco Polo came from Venice; Italy wasn’t a country back then.”
Trust him to turn something fun into a history lesson. “Yeah, whatever.”
The doors of the elevator opened and we followed the signs to the pool. It was an indoor pool, there were three lanes and it was probably about fifteen metres long – long enough for races. I knew as soon as I saw it that Charlie would want to race.
At first I didn’t see anyone in the pool, but then I noticed a figure push off from the edge. Geez, I wanted to have the whole pool to ourselves. Then I saw two men in black suits sitting at the side of the pool. The bad feeling in my gut came back. At first I didn’t recognize them because they weren’t wearing sunglasses. One of them got up and came over to us as Charlie and me were stripping down to our swimmers. I could barely take off my shorts, I was shaking so much.
The man in black was tall and he had big shoulders. He said something to us in Italian.
Charlie said, “Parla inglese?”
I knew that meant, Do you speak English? I hadn’t worked out how Charlie could say four English words in only two Italian words.
“Come back to swim later,” ordered the man in black.
“Sure,” I said and began to put my shorts back on. I wasn’t stupid. I knew from school that if someone three times bigger told me to do something, it was best to do it.
“We’re staying at the hotel. We’re allowed to use the pool.” Charlie folded his arms.
Was he crazy? “We can go back to our room and watch the wrestling,” I said to him. “Let’s go.”
The man in black leaned toward Charlie and said very softly, “Mr. Petruzzelli owns hotel.”
Mr. P must’ve been Mr. Mafia in the pool. That was good enough for me. I was out of here. If Charlie wanted to stay and get his head blown off, that was his business. Real casual, I began to walk back toward the elevator.
I heard a voice behind me. “Boy! You stop!”

Excerpt:
She led me to the other side of the cafeteria where a wall separated us from everyone else. We made our way towards two separate tables. Ricky was sitting at a table by himself, and there were four other people sitting at the other table. I was getting ready to walk in when Flora stopped me.
“You see them four at that table.” She pointed to all of them.
“Yes.”
“That’s Montigo.” She pointed to a guy with skin the color of melted chocolate, and brown eyes. He was tall like Ricky and had black dreads in his hair. “His girlfriend is Tess.” She pointed to a white chick that had red hair, green eyes and freckled skin. “She’s a hot head. That’s Lanisha over there.” She rolled her eyes at her. She pointed to this light skin black chick with crazy brownish green eyes and brown hair. “Last but not least, there’s Simon, who is the nicest of  the group, if you ask me.” She pointed to this white guy. He had pretty blue eyes and blond hair.
“What are their talents?” She was about to walk in, but I stopped her.
“Montigo is water, Tess is fire, Lanisha is air, and Simon is earth.” We walked in the room, and Flora greeted everyone at the table before we sat down.
“Why are you guys pointing at people?”
“I was filling her in on whose who.”
 “Oh.” Ricky eyed my plate.
“Are you going to eat all that?” Ricky asked me.
“No, if you want something, you can have it.” His hand went directly to the chocolate chip cookies. I stopped him. “Yeah, anything, but those.” Then his hand went for the peach pie. I had to stop him once again. Flora started laughing.
“Let me clarify. You can have anything but the sweets.”
“Looks like someone has a sweet tooth,” Flora said.
“So where’s Devon at?” Flora asked Ricky.
“I don’t know. What do I look like his keeper?”
“Don’t start, I just asked a simple question, that’s it.” They got into an argument. I ate my nachos and realized something was missing. Where was my hot sauce? I looked around and saw it was sitting on the farthest table against the wall with the rest of the condiments.
As I grabbed the bottle, I heard someone whistling. I ignored it until I realized they were whistling at me and not that, ‘Oh you’re fine whistle’, it was that come here, whistle. I turned and saw who it was, Montigo. I rolled my eyes. If he wanted to talk to me, he would have to use his words. All of a sudden, I felt something wet hit me on my but almost like a belt. I jumped and dropped the hot sauce on the floor. I turned around to touch my pants to make sure I didn’t feel anything, and sure enough there was a wet spot there. I looked at Montigo, as he sung a water lasso around his head.
“Keep your hands and other objects to yourself.”
“This is what happens when you ignore me hon, so tell me what are you going to do about it.” I remained quiet. “Nothing, just like I thought.” He threw the water lasso at my arm, and it left a wet whelp there.
“I already told you to stop,” I said.
“Or what?” I noticed Flora and Ricky looking at us now.
“Montigo stop, it’s not funny,” Flora said.
“Mind your business Flora.” She gave him the finger. Montigo looked at me again and once again threw the water lasso. This time I caught it and slowed down my breathing, and it froze. When I let go of it, icicles formed going everywhere in the cafeteria. One almost hit him in his face, but his girlfriend Tess, held up her hand just in time. She created a fire wall melting the ice dagger.
Tess rose up, but Montigo raised his hand, and she sat back down. Instead, he got up.
“Finally your group is complete.” He said eyeing me up and down. “So you think you’re big and bad, just because you can make a few icicles?” He laughed not waiting for me to answer. “I think you need to be taught a lesson.” I noticed everyone’s cups beginning to shake. He raised both of his hands, now had two water lassos. He threw one at me, and I mentally prepared myself to grab it, but at the last second, someone stepped in front of me. I realized it was Devon. The water was melting off his body.
“Still picking on people smaller than you?” Devon said.
“Yeah and you’re still poking your nose in other people’s business.”
“If you stop starting shit, then I wouldn’t have too.”
“What makes you think I started it?”
“Who else would it be?” Montigo stepped closer to Devon.
“Again what does this have to do with you?”
Suddenly a line of fire appeared separating Montigo from Devon. Tess slowly, but gracefully got up.
“That’s enough for tonight boys.” Her voice sounded like she was older than what she appeared to be. “Wouldn’t want Devon killing you over his little equal.”
She looked at me. “Word of advice, next time he speaks to you, just answer him.” I smiled at her.
“The last time I checked, he isn’t anyone of importance, and I’ll speak when I want to. Not a moment sooner than that.” Then I mimicked her. “Word of advice, whistling at someone isn’t the right way to get their attention. I’m not a dog.” She looked at me and twirled her hair around her finger. I bent down to wipe the hot sauce I spilled. I felt something hot on my back, and I turned around to see the fireball coming at me. I rose my hand, slowed my breathing, and it froze, it was now a big ball of ice. It fell on the floor not shattering. I looked at Tess, who was now smirking at me. I noticed Devon looking at us, probably wondering if he needed to intervene. He didn’t, I could handle it on my own.
“I don’t know what’s more pathetic, you trying to attack me when my back is turned or you attacking me and me defending myself, when I just find out today that I had a talent.”

Interview and Giveaway- Seducing Death by Cassandra Lawson

What inspired you to become an author?

I started writing my first book in middle school. I was learning to use a computer and the instructor suggested I write a story to practice using the keyboard. That story didn’t go very far, but it was the beginning of my journey toward becoming an author. I’ve always like daydreaming and making up stories. Writing gave me an outlet for my crazy imagination. In all honesty, I never even considered publishing one of my books until 2013.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

When I am writing a book, I make a list of words and phrases I think might work in the title or blurb. As I near the end of the writing process, I start putting things together and come up with possible titles. In this case, Seducing Death was one of eleven possible titles.

Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?

I have a very hard time coming up with titles. In general, I don’t have a title until I am almost done writing a book.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

The books in the Moon Virus series definitely express my opinion on how dangerous extremists are. Conservative extremists were targeted most in Raven’s Blood, which ruffled some feathers. This series is also meant to show the dangers of dehumanizing entire groups of people.

What book are you reading now?

I am currently reading Hidden Secrets by Nicole De La Cruz. I am also rereading A Midsummer Night’s Dream so I can help one of the girls in my homeschool group.

What books are in your to read pile?

I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that it may reveal too much about my one-click addiction.

What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

I am working on book 5 in the Psy-Vamp series. I’ve also been working some on book 4 in the Moon Virus series.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Writing physical descriptions is difficult for me because I have very limited vision. Okay, even when my vision was at its best, I was still considered legally blind. That makes it hard for me to describe details like facial expressions.

Who designed the cover of your latest book?

I design my own covers with the help of my brother, his wife, and my good friend Kari.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Write every day. I know that may sound simplistic, but it’s much harder to start writing again after even a day off.

After waking up in a strange home, Ian’s only companion is the woman who saved him. Undeniably drawn to her, Ian finds himself wondering if it really is possible to love again.

Trapped in a world where she is little more than a pawn for the Fae, Kyleigh long ago accepted the reality of her existence. She is no one’s savior and no one’s guardian angel; she is death. That is until she breaks all the rules to save a vampire many believe beyond salvation. Ian sparks a passion she never believed possible and reawakens emotions she thought long buried.

While secluded in a realm between life and death, Ian and Kyleigh are free to explore their feelings for each other. When enemies past and present join forces to destroy those Ian loves they are forced to leave the safety of Kyleigh’s realm. Can their fragile bond survive when they are faced with the demons of Ian’s past?

This is part of a series, however Seducing Death is a standalone novel,
and can be read without the first two books.

Book One, Raven’s Blood, is free on AmazoniTunes,

Excerpt:
Kyleigh stopped listening to their conversation as the cold breeze of the shadows grew nearer. Time was almost up, and she still didn’t have a plan to save Ian’s life. The smart thing to do was to walk away knowing she’d done her best, but she’d watched Ian too long. No, she would not give up when Ian’s soul was so close to redemption.
“Maybe we should head back in. I’ll message Connor and see what he thinks,” Ian’s friend said, but it was too late. Both vampires heard the danger approaching. His friend pulled out the handheld crossbow and a knife while Ian drew two knives.
“Well, isn’t this a stroke of luck,” called out a human as he emerged from the woods followed by six others.
“Are you having some trouble, human?” Ian asked casually. His hands had dropped to his sides, but he still held the knives. This came as no surprise. She’d seen him in action enough to know this vampire rarely let his guard down.
“I think you already have,” the human said.
Kyleigh saw the inner struggle in both vampires. They obviously suspected the humans were up to no good, but both were too noble to kill them without provocation. That was new for Ian. No longer shrouded in darkness, Ian wouldn’t kill unless he had to.
Several other vampires stepped out of the trees, surrounding Ian and his friend. Kyleigh was all too familiar with this type of vampire. These creatures kept her busy many days. Quickly scanning the group, she found that all the innocent souls had been freed. With this newer virus they were sometimes trapped in the undead body, which was a form of torture she wouldn’t wish on the most evil person. She had yet to figure out how that was even possible, or why one of her kind wasn’t summoned to free the poor soul.
Ian and his friend reacted immediately. The knives in Ian’s hands found their marks in the hearts of two vampires, and Ian’s friend shot the crossbow at another vampire. Kyleigh watched the battle before her with a sense of helplessness. They were too outnumbered and there was no way to win. Even now, the shadows moved in, hungry for death and sin. Rubbing her arms against the cold breeze that preceded the shadows, she watched in horror as Ian was surrounded.
A scream no one would hear escaped her lips when the knife sliced through Ian’s chest. He collapsed to the ground, blood soaking the leaves. Her form wavered in and out with her rage. Despair began to settle around her, but she refused to let it control her. Ian was too close to being saved to lose him now. Whatever it took, the shadows would not claim his soul.
“Take the blond alive!” shouted one of the humans, obviously referring to Ian’s friend. “Damaged is fine, but he has to survive with no damage to his face!”
Determination flashed in Ian’s eyes, and his soul brightened as he worked hard to conceal his phone while sending a message. Then he buried the phone. Soon the blond vampire was unconscious, and Ian was struggling for life.
“Should we finish off the other one?” asked one of the humans. “Looks like he’s still alive.”
Kyleigh held her breath, praying to a god who’d long ago abandoned her that they would just leave.
The leader laughed. “Looks like he’s in a lot of pain,” he said with a vicious sneer.
The urge to use violence against the human who obviously enjoyed the pain of others came as a surprise to Kyleigh. It was a relief when they left the area so she could make her way toward Ian. His weakened state meant she had only seconds to save his life. Her decision made, she emerged from the trees, becoming visible to Ian.
Ian’s beautiful green eyes opened and focused on her as she approached him.
“Kate.” His voice was barely a whisper.
“Don’t worry,” she said in a soft reassuring voice, trying to hide her fear as the shadows closed in around them. “You’re going to be okay, but we need to get you out of here.”
Wrapping them in her power, she bound Ian’s soul to his body. Thankfully he picked that moment to lose consciousness, so she didn’t have to explain what was about to happen.
