Interview Awakening the Trinity by Brittany Elise #YASupernatural

Are you currently binge watching anything on Netflix, Hulu (or elsewhere)? What keeps you glued to the screen?
I just finished watching the third season of Stranger Things, but I’m not currently watching anything. I don’t watch a lot of TV to be honest. However, one of my absolute favorite (and entirely underrated) shows that I watch pretty much every October is: Penny Dreadful. It only ran for three seasons, much to my dismay, but Eva Green plays a phenomenal female lead and the storyline is hauntingly delicious. It takes place in Victorian London, and uses classic literary characters like Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and Dracula. It’s like a gothic fairytale with dark poetry–what’s not to love?
Do you prefer movies or TV series?
This is a good question. I think it depends on my mood and the time of year. If it’s freezing cold and dark and there isn’t much to do outside, I like to find a good TV series to get into, and kind of lose myself in the storyline.
When it comes to reading do you prefer standalones or series?
Also kind of depends on my mood. I love series novels because if the storyline is amazing, I tend to not want it to end. My favorite trilogy right now is the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden. I’m still kind of crossing my fingers that those get made into a movie or a show because they are such incredible books full of historical fantasy and Russian legend. She writes such beautiful imagery–that in my opinion–separates her from all the rest. She’s a true literary queen.
Do you prefer to start new book series when the first book is released or do you want for a several books in the series to be released so you can binge read?
Hmm, if I get lucky enough to stumble on a book series early on, I like to read them as the books are released. I kind of like the torture of ‘waiting’ because as soon as it’s over I know I’m going to have this strange void of emotion like–“what am I supposed to do with my life now?” Ha-ha.
What are some of your hobbies, interests or guilty pleasures?
I love being outside. I love hiking and kayaking–or really any activity I can use as an excuse just to be outside enjoying nature. I adore campfires and stargazing. I like learning oddball or off-the-wall things, too, like tinkering with mechanical things and learning how things operate. I take almost every experience that I can and store it in a little mental file just in case it happens to come in handy for a future story. I love learning, so if someone is going to take the time to share with me something they are passionate about, you can bet they’ll have my full attention. Unless it’s math… ::cringes:: Numbers and I do not get along.
What's your guilty “nerd” pleasure?
Well, I am definitely a nerd of sorts. I’m into the DC and Marvel universe, and thanks to my sister-in-law, some Japanese anime. I’ve dressed up for renaissance festivals and events, but that’s pretty much where I draw the line.
Have you ever peeked at the ending of a book?
Never! That’s like the ultimate sin of reading for me.
When it comes to your own writing are you a plotter or a pantster?
I use a sort of skewed version of a skeleton outline. I like to know how I’m starting a story, where I want the story to peak, and how I want it to end. Everything in between is an adventure, and might change as I go along. I have tried mapping things out in advance–chapter by chapter, but that method just does not work well for me.

Teaser Excerpt Two:

I could feel the slow burn of Wren’s gaze from the side and knew he was watching me. He seemed to always be watching me, and I wondered what thoughts were circling through that pretty head of his. I looked up at him demurely. “What?”
     “Nothing.”
     “You’re watching me,” I stated.
“Do I make you uncomfortable?” He shifted toward me, hovering.
     “I haven’t decided yet.”
