Part of a burgeoning ancient prophecy, Shea's sole focus is to protect her sisters.

A gift at risk when she's kidnapped by a stubborn, frustratingly handsome barbarian who takes her on a whirlwind adventure through tenth century Scandinavia.

Though at odds with the twenty-first century beauty from the moment he meets her, Viking Davyn Sigdir steals Shea away to keep her safe from multiple enemies set on making her theirs. Unfortunately, he underestimates how alluring she can be when it suits her. How feisty and headstrong she is as she tries to outwit him at every turn. Yet the fiery strife between them only draws them closer, and soon their unwanted attraction becomes hard to resist.

Determined to control their own fate, they devise a bold plan to trick their adversaries. One that could keep Shea's matchmaking gift intact plus end the prophecy and ongoing war. All they have to do is get along and not give into temptation which should be simple for two people determined to remain apart. Or so they hope as a passionate high-stakes war of hearts ensues in Viking's Intent.

Excerpt 3 (Steamy battle scene between hero & heroine)

Once the challenge had been laid, and he truly accepted it, Davyn only saw red as he went at Shea. As he fought her as he would any other. Of course, he had fought women on occasion. Those who trained here to be warriors. But he had never fought a woman like Shea. One who wanted blood and was more skilled than most.
Far more skilled as it turned out.
Something he soon learned as he went at her with a fury that seemed to saturate him. He knew some of it was jealousy from what he had witnessed with the twins, but it was more than that. Rage from somewhere else. Another time and place.
It was also deep-seated anger that she had risked her life like that.
He kept all thoughts from her as they began battling. Axe against axe then sword against mace. An interesting dance as he slashed and she swung. Yet they fought through the red haze of their dragon eyes, her movements talented and fast as he dodged her again and again only for her to dodge him over and over.
They were well matched and rarely got one over on the other as both became slick with sweat. Though it took a great deal of strength, he never became distracted by the way she moved her slender yet curvy body when battling. There was a sensuality about it that he knew she did on purpose. Another means to distract him. Disarm him.
“I knew you were a jerk,” her thoughts eventually drifted through his mind as they battled harder and his ability to keep her at telepathic bay weakened. As they tossed aside their sword and mace and began a whole new type of dance with daggers alone. “But not this much of one. Not this clueless of one.”
“I did nothing,” he reminded aloud as they circled and clenched two daggers each. “You did it all, Cupid. You drew them to you to get what you wanted.”
“I did,” she agreed through clenched teeth as she stabbed at him, but he evaded. “And what I wanted will help us, or did you not get that?”
“What you got nearly had you kidnapped, then likely put through unimaginable torture,” he growled, stabbing his dagger at her in rapid succession as she did the same before both evaded and spun.
“Yet all the while you smiled, flirted,” he ground out, angrier by the moment. “All the while, you seemed to enjoy it…them.”
She released an inhuman, borderline dragon-like sound as she came at him so hard, slicing and dicing, that he stayed inches away from her angry, relentless blades before stumbling. When he did, it was enough for her to take advantage with alarming precision. The next thing he knew, she slammed him down on his back, straddled him and wedged one dagger against his throat and the other, yet again, against his balls.
“No,” she roared when he started to make a move. “Stay still or I will end first your manhood then your life, beast.”
His body trembled in response to a variety of things. The rush of battling a worthy opponent. The jealousy he still felt at what he had witnessed today. The rage he felt because he couldn’t protect her better. The fear he felt because her life was on the line.
Then there was her appearance right now.
Her skin sheening and sparkling, she appeared to be a wild dragon angel who’d come for his soul with her hair stuck up at odd angles and her cat-like eyes riotous as she glared down at him. Her chest heaved, and her nipples were pebbled. Her slender, toned thighs clamped around his waist and her hot center about burned through him.
“What do you want, Cupid?” he grunted, as aroused as her in an instant. He was barely able to focus on anything but what it would feel like to be inside her. Yet he kept it together enough to position his blades against her calves.
“Now you ask what I want,” she said, her teeth still clenched as the corner of her mouth curled up in obvious appreciation of his blade positioning. “And here you call yourself a thinker.”
As their eyes held, he finally caught a glimpse of something other than pride that she had done so well handling those twins. He finally saw something other than cockiness that she had gotten answers that still had him puzzled. That still made his inner dragon roar and rage and battered at his subconscious in ways he didn’t understand. What he saw in her eyes now wasn’t what he expected. Wasn’t what he wanted to see. Not ever when he looked into Shea’s eyes.

Raw pain. Hurt. Even fear.

Chapter 1

Mary screamed.
Shocked by the sound of her own voice, she pressed her hands to her mouth, muffling the terror rising from her lungs in hitched breaths, spasming violently. She hugged her elbows against her sides, could see them. A slow lurching gait, shuffling outside her hiding place. Someone was shouting, a piercing howl as if they were experiencing the worst pain they had ever felt. Swallowing hard, she peered between the planks of wood of the hut. Pool equipment and toys and floats piled around her. If she moved—God! They would hear. And they would come. And they would consume her flesh. Just like they had Billy, her boyfriend. And Greg and Stacy. Pam. Vicky. Sammy, too. And most of the resort staff. Torn apart and consumed just like in a movie she saw once about cannibals in the rainforest of South America—except these flesh eaters were dead.
What was left of the pool boy Bruce bumped against the hut.
Mary whimpered into her hand, trying not to look at the ruined corpse walking—somehow—despite all rational sense that he should be dead and buried, not moving around, not eating the flesh of the living. His once muscular arms were now riddled with purplish-yellow bite marks, chunks of meat and nerve exposed. Fingers gnawed to the bone. And his eyes were the worst, glassy and bloodied and horrid, but that wasn't just what bothered her. They were vacant; soulless orbs. As if whatever made him human was gone and lost forever.
He groaned and bumped into the hut again.
Did he know she was in there?
Did he hear her? Smell her?
Breathing rapidly, Mary's hands trembled against her mouth, elbows pressed hard against her ribs. Suddenly she could hear the Eurythmics song Sweet Dreams blasting from the tiny foam speakers around her neck.
"No!" she hissed, fumbling with her Walkman clipped to her large plastic yellow belt, searching for the large red button, silencing the music.
Mary looked between the wood planks again.
More of the flesh eaters converged on the hut. Drawn by the rhythmic music, herding together like a pool of slow-moving sharks circling in the water.
She stifled a yelp, but not completely, cursing herself silently for accidently rubbing against the Walkman. The living dead began to bang on the outside of the hut. Gnashing teeth and bellowing a loathing, famished lament.
"Please!" she cried.
The wood of the hut groaned against the pressure of the horde of flesh eaters.
Moaning impatiently, cracks began to splinter. A large section busted inward as a bloated waxy arm shot through, grabbing hold of Mary's windbreaker, smearing dark-red grime against the sky-blue bomber.
"No!" she screamed as the dead man pulled her toward the opening in the hut.
Mary held her arms out, pushing against the wall, resisting—unable to keep her gaze from the splintered section in the broken hut wall and the large wood spike that protruded toward her as she inched closer and closer.
She groaned, swatting at the rotting hand that held her.
"Please!" she breathed.
Closer the dead man pulled her.
The wood spike was inches from her face—her eye.
Excited bellowing erupted around her, outside the hut, as if the living dead could smell the inevitable feast. They pounded against the walls, eager and impatient.
The dead man yanked on her again, tearing her windbreaker, pulling her closer.
She sobbed.
The wood spike pierced her eye.
She screamed—an unfathomable utterance.
The pain shot through her face and into her body like an electric bolt. Trembling, she grimaced, biting down, clenching her teeth as the wood pushed deeper inside her eye. Warm runny fluid flowed down her cheek, tasting of salt and iron.
And then the dead rotting man gave one final wrench.
The wood curved up as she slammed into it, penetrating deep and breaking the wood splinter inside her eye socket. The world spun, and she fainted from shock or blood loss, or both, she fell to her knees, ripping her tennis shorts and the skin of her legs.
All around, the walls came down, and the dead had their feast. Grabbing and ripping away shreds of clothing, hair, pounds of meat. The dead, rotting man that still held Mary's blue windbreaker shoved his head through the wood opening and sucked and licked at the juices on the spike, lapping all the moist cream from her burst orb.
Unconscious, Mary was unaware of the things happening to her body.
Unaware as dead, worming fingers clawed into her flesh.
Consuming.
Chewing.
Ravishing her red, oily innards.

Excerpt:
“There’s the little fire freak.” My eyes shot open. Standing before me was Tanya with her usual wannabes. She was dressed in her predictable mixture of bad-girl-meets-prep, wearing the pigtails only she could pull off as chic and not goody two-shoes.
“What’s the matter? Nothing to say to me?” She stepped forward. “Not even an apology for blowing up my house?”
“Not really.” People always said if you didn’t let bullies get to you, they’d get bored and move on. It was time to put that to the test.
“When did you become an arsonist, anyway?” she took another step. “Was it to deal with your dad leaving you in that ghetto with all the other freaks?”
“My father didn’t leave,” I snapped before I could stop myself. “He’s dead.”
“Oh, I’m sure that’s what your mom told you.” She was right in front of my face now. “But we all know if your daddy was dead, you would have gotten a nice life insurance check and you wouldn’t be so dirt poor.”
At different time I might have laughed at that. I guess it didn’t occur to Tanya not everyone could afford a life insurance policy.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said as I leapt off the bench and shoved my way past her.
“I’m trying to help you, Billie,” she said from behind me. “You and your friends. I know it can be hard coming from nothing.”
Even though I knew I should just keep walking, I whirled around. “You don’t know a thing about us.”
“You know what the number one profession is for girls from low-income neighborhoods?”
The people around us gasped, though the ones trying to look cool laughed. I was almost impressed with Tanya for being that subtle.
I glanced at her Prada bag, my hand twitching. It would be so easy to just rip that thing open. And it would be a lot better than she deserved. But the Officials had told me not to use magic, and I had a feeling my ability to follow their order would affect whether they sent me to the Academy, or to a containment facility.
Slowly, I turned around again. “I’m not listening to you.”
“You and tall-chick might be able to make it, but the chubby one? What guy would pay for a night with that?”
There was more laughter, but I barely heard it as I whirled around and screamed, “Shut up!”
Everything happened too fast. All I knew was that one moment I was glaring at Tanya, breathing hard while she folded her arms and smirked; and the next second the tall, marble centerpiece from the fountain was hurtling toward Tanya’s head.
She screamed and ducked, and the marble spiral crashed down just behind her shoulder. Even though it missed her, it still drenched her and her bag with a splash of murky, icy water.
For a second nobody moved, as everyone’s eyes moved from Tanya, to the wrecked fountain, to me.

Interview - Passion and Deceit: Innocent by Sea Hardt

What inspired you to become an author?

I have always loved expressing myself. Whether it be through my art, my singing in the shower much to my families horror or simply having a good chin wag at any given chance that I am given. To add to the equation is that I have a very fertile mind when it comes to creativity and I am always conjuring all kinds of scenarios in my mind about a number of topics. The process of writing was yet another way of expressing thoughts where colors and brush strokes are replaced with words accompanied by the careful construction of a good story. For me, writing is the culmination of all that I love; expression of my thoughts and feelings, creativity, logistics and lots of chocolate to fuel me on.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

We are in many ways driven by our desires and passions. This is what makes me get out of bed in the morning, that yet intangible promise of something that is within reach but I have to work for. For most of us anyway, it is either a wish or a passion. As for the ‘Deceit’ word I believe this is what we do on a daily basis, this is the game we all play, hiding and revealing our emotions all the time. The title, Passion and Deceit is what defines most of our relationships to each other and more so with the sexual encounters in our life’s that are turned up a few more notches.

Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?

Like my not conforming spirit, I like my expression to sometimes not have a particular aim. I love the unknown and hence I have an affinity for doing thinks on the spur of the moment. I loosely think of a title sometimes but what gives me story direction is how I generally feel and adventures I would love to embark on. Whether it be a casual hook-up or getting lost in the dramas of every day life. No, I have no rule that says I must first think of the title then the story or even vice versa. I just let my heart push the pen across the page.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I love to write from a holistic approach. Cutting straight to the point is that we are all interlinked and ones pain is everyone else’s. If someone I know is having problems, then I too will be affected even if I ignore it, inevitability I too will suffer from her pain. Yes I believe in Karma, so I do good at every chance that fate gives me. But for me it is much more then doing good so that I reap a reward. It is simply all about love. Love for yourself is to love others. Love for others is to love yourself. Whether someone feels the same towards you should simply be of no concern to you directly. To conclude my garage philosophies, although I write about all kinds of erotica, at the end of the day, you simply need to love and respect everything in life. In the case of the story, ‘Passion and Deceit’, one needs to wait for the end of the book to understand the repercussions of a superficial lifestyle.

Is the book, characters, or any scenes based on a true life experience, someone you know, or events in your own life?

I cannot imagine not relating to my own life and that of other people to compose such a story. The book is a construction of a myriad of events of that of my own and other peoples past experiences. One cannot write about something that they have not lived or somehow experienced themselves. However to answer the burning question whether if a certain character has any parallels to my own character; I can only say that it perhaps reflects who I used to be and no longer am.

Who designed the cover of your latest book?

I used Mario Madureira, a very good designer that immediately understood and expressed what I was trying to get across. I needed something with aggression and did not mince the words of the title. I wanted it carnal in its intensity hence the probing hands all over the amazing body. The red coming from the bottom is part of my brand and speaks of our burning passion that we occasionally come across in our life that we cannot resist but reach out to. The title made big and strong were aimed to be memorable. Loved the font and its intensity. The splash of electric blue is the streak of color that to me breaks through like lightning in the sky on a dark cold rainy night.

Do you have a song or playlist (book soundtrack) that you think represents this book?

While writing I always have background music. Good deep blues with artists such as BB King and John Lee Hooker are common visitors to my playlist. It is such heartfelt forms of expression that it resonates most times with me. Otherwise, if I have to think of a soundtrack to my writing, Sade and Beth Hart are my first choices hands down. These artists life and experiences come through so strongly in their music and for me, it is easy to adapt their style and essence into my books.

Just for fun, if you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?

So often I wonder what life is like through other people. What they see and experience. The good and the bad of their life’s. Their interactions with their partners and how they see the world. I am forever curious about what makes people tick. I guess if I was a character like Casper the ghost or perhaps having the ability to metamorphose myself into different shapes like their dog or maybe their husband or wife would be amazing abilities to have. I know it super intrusive but what fun would that be?

“His kiss was hard and long as he took my head in both his powerful hands and devoured my mouth. His lips felt soft and I felt like I was eating a succulent strawberry as I returned his kiss.
