Halloween Guest Blog and Giveaway with Stacey Kennedy

How do you eat your Halloween candy?

I’m always amazed to hear the different stories there are of how people were allowed to eat their Halloween candy while growing up. For me, my parents never put restrictions on me. I went out with a pillowcase all dressed up in my costume, walked the streets and knocked on doors until I had a huge bag full of candy, then I got home and poured it out onto the floor.

After my parents sifted through it to make sure there wasn’t anything in it that was homemade from people we didn’t know, open packages or in any other way not good to consume, they let me dig in.

So, after a night of eating way too much candy I was left with a sore stomach and then I could gain some control. I’d usually take a few pieces to school with me every day and also snacked on some when I got home. As always, I ate all the good stuff first, so the leftovers never seemed as great and I always picked through them.

But take my husband for example. His parents only let him take out twenty pieces and then they had to throw the rest out.

*gasps* Yes, I would’ve cried if this had happened to me. But I do find it interesting to hear what “rules” your household had in regards to eating your Halloween treats. So share away and tell me your stories.

With keeping on the Halloween theme, I’m sharing a snippet from my new vampire erotic romance, SHADOWED SOUL.

With your comment about your candy eating habits, you’ll be entered to win a copy of that story to give you a supernatural erotic read on Halloween night.

Four months have passed since Ellie’s heart was broken by her cheating boyfriend, Gerrid. Sick of mourning, she sets out in search of one thing, a man to make her forget. Madame Eve, a matchmaker, arranges for Ellie to meet just the man at Nocturnal Nightclub in Miami. Bryce is not only sexy as sin, but full of mystery. He does things no man should be capable of. Ellie might question his fast speed, cold hands, and even the way he bites at her skin―if he wasn’t so determined to awaken the part of her that’s been buried by lies.

Days have passed since Bryce’s last feeding and his vampire hungers demand to be sated. But feeding is not his only intention. Ellie seeks to be a different woman, to gain power for herself, and Bryce plans to push her to discover it. To show her she can do things she never thought possible and force her to see the strength she yearns for already lives inside of her.

Teaser:

Ellie scanned the dance floor, searching for the man matching the picture Madame Eve had emailed her. Instead, she got a few heated glances from guys she wouldn’t touch on her worst days. So, instead of continuing to search, she lingered taking a seat upon a stool, listening to the bartender and Kenna talk dirty nothings to each other. Why isn’t he here?

After she downed her second Cosmo, goose bumps pimpled on the back of her neck, and she glanced over her shoulder to discover her date standing against the back wall. His gaze focused on one person, her.

Hallelujah!

“Oooo...my night is looking up,” she exclaimed.

Kenna didn’t respond, too busy playing googly eyes with the bartender. Ellie jabbed an elbow into her side. She hissed as she rubbed her ribs. “Ow, what?”

“He’s here. I’m going to dance.” She gestured behind her and grinned to show her intentions.

Kenna peeked over her shoulder before focusing back on Ellie and giving a shit-eating grin.

“Have fun.”

Ellie slid off the stool, keeping her focus on the stranger. His mere presence screamed sex. Much taller than her five-foot-five frame—around six-two—but built like a brick shit house. His muscular arms were crossed over his chest, his broad shoulders tempting her and she couldn’t wait to run her hands over them tonight.

Putting a little oomph into her step, she made her way onto the dance floor. The loud techno song washed over her and the vibrations were strong against her feet. Her kinda music—hard and dirty.

Staying at the edge of the crowd, she found her beat and moved with the rhythm. Twirling, she ran her hands along her torso and did anything and everything to gain his attention.

To all appearances, her plan worked.

He dropped his arms to his side and stepped forward. His sparkling blue eyes, short, fashionably-styled black hair, and chiseled features warmed her right down to her toes. Her heart raced. Her insecurities drifted away. The world around her ceased to exist, leaving only him and her.

Wetness pooled in her panties. His nostrils flared and his heated gaze burned deeper. He approached and as he settled in front of her, he grabbed her lower back and yanked her against his hard body. Her head tilted back and he leaned down, cupped her nape and kissed her.

A kiss not meant for strangers―not meant as a sweet hello. No, a promise he would pleasure her and she sang a big thank you, Jesus for bringing him to her. No thoughts. No regrets. Just two sweaty bodies going at it until exhaustion set in.

I did the same thing with the candy. I never let my kids eat anything until I had gone through it. That is what my parents did. It is best to control it to avoid problems later.

My parents always went through my candy for safety precautions. Afterwards, I was allowed to eat what I wanted that night. After that, I was only allowed a couple pieces of candy a day as a snack. Too much candy had us bouncing off the wall!! LOL!! :-) I do the same today with my own children.

My parents also ran through our full pillowcases before we were allowed to eat anything. Then we could pretty much do as we wanted with it. We have done the same with my children, going through their bags first. They are aonly allowed a couple pieces that night, because usually getting towards bedtime. After that, I give them free reign. Usually this leads to them eating it fairly quickly. Oh, and I've always had their dentist appts scheduled after Halloween and Easter.(Works out perfect!)

We lived in the country on a farm. The only houses we could go to were family. Pre-packaged Candy was a BIG DEAL because it was a luxury. I've since learned that homemade fudge beats Hershey bar but when you're a kid, you want the Hershey. Times were really tight back then for our family, so any "store bought" candy or treats were savored slowly and with a lot of thanks.

My parents went through all my candy as well. My little one was too small to go last year. She screamed the whole time so we made it to one house..LOL! Wish me better luck this year! But I know I will go through her candy and steal her starbursts :) She doesnt like them so it will be more like she will throw them at me and eat up all the chocolate. If it isn't chocolate and peanut butter she wo'nt touch it :)! Great post Stacy!! Hi Roxy!!

Trick or treating with my siblings was always so much fun. When we were exhausted, we'd come home and Mom and Dad would sort through our candy to make sure everything was safe. Then my brother, sister and I would trade candies for our favorites. We were allowed to eat a handful that night, and then could eat a few pieces every day until it was all gone. I used to hoard mine in my bedroom and make it last even longer. :)

My parent's always checked our candy too, along with sampling some of it, lol. We were pretty much given free access to it, my sister, brother, and I often trading for our faves. I do remember one year freakin' out because this little old man (a neighbor) put some kind of mints in my mouth. I turned to my mom, with big eyes freakin' out cause of course we were not allowed to eat anything until it was checked out. She was laughing, and nodded yes to let me know it was ok.

I did the same thing as you. Went out and got a pillow case or two full of candy. Went home and dumped it.Had my parents inspect it (while doing so they took some of their favorites) Then I'd swap with my siblings to get my favorites. For the first day or two I'd eat as much as I could. Then I'd spread it out over the next little while. But I usually ended up throwing some away.

Thanks for the giveaway
