What inspired you to become an author?
Folami: I have always loved reading and writing. I
knew that no matter where life took me I would become an author, because I love
books. As I grew older the dream was forgotten, but one day-immersed in the throes
of Harry Potter withdrawal- the burning desire to write returned. I can’t say
there was just one source of inspiration; I just knew I had to write.
Abeni: My tale is much simpler. My sister told me we
were going to write a book
together. What could be more inspiring than that?
How did you come up with the title for your latest
book?
Folami: The title was just me playing around with
words in my head actually. I got the idea for the book based off of an exit
interview and a weird idea about Deus ex machina. The name Exemeus is the
result of a weird game of partial scramble with those words.
Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s
complete?
Abeni: It
really depends. As of now we’ve always decided on the title in advance. The
titles normally occur to us first, so I can’t imagine us changing that.
Is there a message in your novel that you want
readers to grasp?
Abeni: The main idea is to be yourself. Embrace
being different, be original, and love your diversity.
What books are in your to read pile?
Abeni: I’m too busy writing, working, and being a
full time mom to read anything lately.
Folami: I have a ton of books in my to-read pile:
Prodigy, Altered, and Level 2, just to name a few. I’ve been doing a lot of
writing and promoting, so I haven’t been reading my normal 5-7 books a week.
What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?
Abeni: We are currently working on the sequel to The
Exemeus. It’s just in the outline phase, so we don’t have too much to share at
this point.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that
really strikes you about their work?
Abeni: Stephenie Meyer. I loved how original it was.
She put such a new spin on an old concept. I love authors with the ability to
think outside the box.
Folami: I love A & E Kirk. Their novel Demons at
Deadnight, was highly original. The characters were funny and easy to relate
to, but what I loved was their ability to capture family interactions so vividly.
It’s really impressive.
Do you have to travel much to do research for your
books?
Abeni: Not really. Once when we were vacationing in
Trinidad we thought we would set a scene there for book two, but it didn’t fit
as well as we hoped, so not yet. However, we intend to make up tons of excuses
to travel for the books in the upcoming years.
Who designed the cover of your latest book?
Folami: The very talented and amazing Amalia
Chitulesca. She took our idea and flushed it out into this amazing cover. We
were so picky, right down to the positioning of the arms, but she continued to
work with us until it was perfect. We
continuously get compliments on our cover and we owe it all to her.
Do you have a song or playlist (book soundtrack) that
you think represents this book?
Abeni: Honestly, this soundtrack would have to be
every Michael Jackson song ever written. When we were writing the book Michael
Jackson died. We listened to all of his greatest hits and some of the obscure
titles too. The soundtrack for our next book will be far more interesting, I’m
sure.
Thank you so much for having us on your blog.

Book Description:
Haylee Smith is dead, she just doesn’t know it yet.
Her short life was devoted to love and to hate. Love of the man who stole her heart, hate for the man who stole the world. Murdered by the government she swore to destroy, fate has given her another chance to make it right. But to save the planet, she needs the help of the most powerful mystic the world has ever seen—unfortunately he hasn’t been born yet.
In a world where fear is the only currency, Dephon has committed the ultimate crime: inspiring hope.
His only goal is to make it safely through ninth grade, but on a post-apocalyptic Earth run by the Treptonian government, it isn’t that simple. Heir to a legendary power, Dephon Johnson is the only threat to the government’s rule. And on Trepton, all threats must be eliminated. When hundreds of assassins are dispatched to neutralize him, Dephon is forced to fight back. His only chance of survival is to enlist the aid of the greatest warrior the world has ever known. The only problem is, she's been dead for 13 years.

About the Authors:
Folami and Abeni Morris are a sister-sister writing team. Together they wrote (and rewrote) The Exemeus series, somehow managing to accomplish it without murdering one another. Despite their facial similarities, tendency to finish each other’s thoughts and stick up for each other constantly, no, they’re not twins and thus deserve their own individual bio.
Folami Morris
Folami grew up in the tiny city of San Mateo Ca, where nothing ever happens and no one ever leaves. She went to Xavier University for undergraduate, getting her B.A in physics and her B.S in Biology. After graduation she returned to California, to live in an even smaller city, where even less happens, Antioch Ca. During this time she escaped the monotony by hanging out with her imaginary friends Hyalee and Dephon, and by writing the Exemeus.
She finally escaped to Queens NY and now realizes that quiet and tiny aren’t so bad.
Abeni Morris
As luck (and logic) would have it, Abeni grew up in the same tiny little town as her sister, then she too escaped to the tinier town of Antioch. She has yet to leave. She received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood development from Cal State East Bay. She is the mom of two amazing kids, who swear that they deserve a percentage of the book proceeds and a ton of the credit. At least she raised dreamers.
