Interview with Karin Shah

What inspired you to become an author?

I was an avid reader. But I would always think "that would be a great idea for a book! I want to read a book about what if this..." So I decided to write the book I wanted to read.

Do you write in different genres?

I mostly write Paranormal and Sci-fi Romance, but I have a Fantasy and a  YA looking for homes. Wandering sub-genres is the consequence of always wanting to write what I feel like reading.

If yes which is your favorite genre to write?

I love paranormal, but sci-fi romance is my absolute favorite.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

It's the first book in my new series called the Chimera Chronicles and Jake, the hero's, default shift is lion so it seemed to fit.

Do you title the book first or wait until after its complete?

I usually have a working title, but I have no problem changing it if I don't think it's evocative enough.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I always come back the the same thing. The first step towards loving others, is finding a way to love ourselves.

What books/authors have influenced your life?

Linnea Sinclair is both an influence through her books and a lovely mentor and friend. Others whose books have inspired me are:  Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jayne Ann Krentz, Robin D. Owens, Susan Sizemore, and more recently Kresley Cole, to name a few.

What book are you reading now?

I just re-read Dark Needs at Winter's Edge.

What books are in your to read pile?

A better question would be what isn't*g*. I haven't had a chance to read Time Untime yet, so that's my next read.

What is your current work in progress or upcoming projects?

I'm working on the next book in the Chimera Chronicles series, though I'm chomping at the bit to write the third book because it has a bank robbery in it and I love bank robbery movies. Is that weird?

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

The Chimera Chronicles are about seven brothers separated in childhood. Some of the brothers don't even know they have siblings, and except for the oldest, Kyle, none of them know they are chimeras. Shifters who can be lions or dragons and have the strengths and quirks of both even when in human form. Around thirty, chimeras hit their chimeric "puberty." they either find their destined mates or go "feral," that is they become lost in one of their animal natures and basically kill everything in their paths.
Ethan, the second youngest, doesn't have a strong default shift and instinctively tries to shift during a break in and gets stuck in between forms, incorporeal. As a result, he believes he's been killed and become a ghost.

Karin Shah

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Word Count: 86,673

Cover Artist: Rae Monet

Book Description:

Dangerous and forbidden...

Research scientist, Dr. Anjali Mehta, lost her beloved family in an earthquake. Only her work cuts through the paralyzingly grief, but when she finds her new research subject, reputed mass murderer, Jake Finn, maddeningly uncooperative and inexplicably sexy she's tempted to run away. How can she burn to touch a killer--a man behind bars?

What she doesn't know is that Jake is a chimera, a shapeshifter who can change into a lion or a dragon with all the strengths of both even in human form, who believes his ability to shape shift is nothing but a terrifying hallucination, and his overpowering attraction to his new doctor proof positive he’s finally gone over the edge.

And the employer she trusts has an agenda all his own. If she can't believe the impossible, neither she nor Jake may make it out alive.

About the Author:

I live in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio and worship Jeni's Ice Cream, JK Rowling, Jayne Ann Krentz, the tv show Supernatural, and the movies, Hunt For Red October and The Princess Bride(though not necessarily  in that order.)

I am a fanatical reader of Romance, particularly Sci-Fi Romance, Fantasy Romance and Paranormal Romance. I always write the book I want to read, so I tend to jump sub-genre a bit. My husband and I are the parents of two kids (a girl and a boy)  and slaves to two dogs ( a basenji and a vizsla)

I was born in Rochester, NY, attended SUNY Oswego and got my Master's in Information and Library Science at the University of Buffalo. I was a School Librarian in Webster, NY for five years before starting my writing career. (I still miss my students.)
