Liz
holds forth on the eternal appeal of the flawed hero . . . or why we ladies
love our alpha dogs.
It
is a truth universally acknowledged—by us diehard romance readers, at
least—that a lust-worthy hero simply cannot be perfect. He must have flaws—perhaps even scars. Certainly Royden Napier, my
hero-of-the-moment, is far from faultless.
Napier is a gruff, grumbling, order-barking and oftentimes cynical sort
of fellow, thanks in part to his work as Assistant Commissioner of
the Metropolitan Police.
When
Napier meets his nemesis Lisette Colburne in A Bride By Moonlight, they
instantly clash. Because Napier is, as
Lisette puts it, hard-hearted, stubborn, and utterly without charm—and those
are her gentler insults. At first blush,
Napier seems to her entirely too
commanding. But as readers, would we
want our heroes to be otherwise? Do we
want a perky, soft-hearted, flexible sort of gentleman leading our leading lady
about? (Yes, just dwell a moment upon
that word flexible, and all it
implies . . . )
Admittedly,
charm can sometimes be tolerated in a hero if he can carry it off with a
certain rakish allure. But a hero who is
not stubborn? Who is not, at base, just
a little ruthless? No, give us are
barking alpha dogs any day. They call, I
think, to the very essence of what our inner woman wants. They are the howling, snarling pack
leaders. The males who are most apt to
raise their cubs and provide well for those to whom they have given their
loyalty and affection. They are life’s victors.
But
rays of sunshine? Not so much—or at
least not all the time. The truth is, we
really don’t want it any other way. And
in the end, the fair Lisette, too, will fall.
For while her hero may be hard-hearted, he is also—again, her words—the
most alive, the strongest, and the most invincible man she has ever known . . .
and he is, above all things, a victor.

Book Description:
Royden Napier, Baron Saint-Bryce, is tall, dark, and ruthless—and on the hunt for a dangerous beauty . . . On the eve of her escape to the Continent, bold, beautiful Lisette Colburne accepts a proposal she dare not refuse: masquerade as the future bride of the steely-eyed Royden Napier and help him solve his most dangerous case. Soon Lisette is in even greater danger—of losing her heart to the one man with the power to destroy her . . .
Estranged from his aristocratic family, the enigmatic Napier has forged a reputation as Scotland Yard's most relentless police commissioner. He's vowed to bring Lisette to justice—but with every forbidden kiss and every tantalizing touch, he finds himself becoming less convinced of her guilt . . . and more certain he must have her. But when danger touches Lisette, can he save her?

Thank you for joining us Liz.
Congrats on your new release Liz, the book cover is simply stunning but nothing compares to the wonderful writing. Your characters have a lot of them and feel so real, and your plot is always deep and wonderful. A bride by moonlight storyline mystery is absolutely fantastic!
Liz writes wonderful books. Historical will always be my favorite.
