Interview with Dawn Luedecke

What inspired you to become an author?

I have always been really good at academic writing, but I find it extremely boring! One day when my husband caught me sneaking my 200th book into the house, he suggested I start writing them instead. I found the concept intriguing so at night and while he was underway (for the Coast Guard) I would sneak away to my computer and write shamelessly.

Do you write in different genres?

Yes, I do. I write historical and paranormal.

If yes which is your favorite genre to write?

I love to write in both historical and paranormal. I love learning all the various historical facts I can use in my stories. Whereas when I write paranormal, I get to unleash my creative side.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

For my current WIP, Montana Bound, I discovered the name when I made a list of four and sent a questionnaire out to my family. They gave me their opinions and I took that under consideration as I continued to write. Montana Bound actually has a double meaning, which is why I love it so much.

Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?

Sometimes it comes first, but most of the time it comes to me somewhere in the middle.  I sometimes go through several names before I fall in love with one.

Is the book, characters, or any scenes based on a true life experience, someone you know, or events in your own life?

I love to use personal or historical events in my books. Especially in the Montana Girl Series, which is written for my sisters and brother. I use them as the heroines and hero’s in my books, and love when I can use real life events in the stories.

What books/authors have influenced your life?

I am a huge fan of Linda Lael Miller. In fact, she is the reason I figured out how to go about becoming a published author. I attended a facebook chat for one of her releases and during the conversation; she suggested I join Romance Writers of America (RWA). I did, and ever since then I’ve been blessed with a few publishing contracts, and forged friendships with several amazing authors

What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

I am currently working on three projects. The third book in the western historical Montana Girl Series, Montana Bound.  The second book in my paranormal Windrose Series, Midnight Fire. And I am expanding a short historical to full length. That is, in between edits and promo for my upcoming releases, Big Sky Brazen and the Lighthouse Series anthology.

Book Description:

Running from a past of privilege, deceit, and danger, Travis Simms is ready to settle down. What better place to forget all he left behind than the quiet little Montana town of Lolo Hot Springs? His goal is clear — build a hotel and his own destiny without complications —until one of the town’s most troublesome women captures his attention.

Dusty Larson is hell bent on independence, helping her sister run the Triple D Ranch. She can do anything a man can, and do it better, so she certainly doesn’t need one in her life. The only problem is she seems to attract bad luck and danger...and Travis. Can he tame her wild ways and keep his bachelor status intact — or does he risk losing his heart?

About the Author:

A country girl born and bred, Dawn Luedecke has spent most of her life surrounded by horses, country folk, and the wild terrain of Nevada, Idaho and Montana. As a child she would spend many afternoons reading books, watching western classics, and Rogers and Hammerstein movies.

When she grew up she decided to leave the quiet country life for a chance to find adventure by serving a successful tour in the United States Coast Guard. During that time she found her soul mate (and alpha male) and started a family and writing career. She enjoys writing historical and paranormal romance and spends as much time as she can working on her current manuscript.
