Guest Blog and Giveaway with TF Walsh

Hi Roxanne, thanks for having me on your blog today.

Don't judge a book by its genre.

One of the hardest things my mind has to comes to terms with when writing is, 'What genre is the story?'  I understand the purpose of labelling books in genres and subgenres, but I also struggle with the idea of pigeonholing stories. Especially when mislabelling my story may result in someone reading it and being disappointed that it wasn't the type of story they are used to. Or worse still, someone looking at the genre and dismissing it off-hand as not the type of story they read.

'Cloaked in Fur' is classified in the Romance genre, and subgenre is Paranormal Romance. But it could easily be classified in the Fantasy genre, subgenre Urban Fantasy. Both classifications easily fit the story, and when used in concert, are probably a better way to label it. And there is probably a touch of other adventure, horror, drama and other genres thrown into the mix. But hopefully it appeals to a variety of readers, who are open minded about trying new stories, or whom simply love werewolves.

Just don't ask me what genre of writer I am, that's a whole other story.

The police and her boyfriend, Inspector Connell Lonescu, are starting to question her involvement in the murders, which is endangering the pack’s secret existence. Great post. The story should come first and then you see what genre it would need to go into - not something I always find as easy as it seems!

Excellent post. Sometimes genre can be frustrating. I'd definitely say you're speculative fiction which will cover all those aspects of your writing!
