Hi everyone! Roxanne, thanks so much for having me as a
guest today to celebrate the next book in my Risk It series from Entangled
Publishing, RISKY SURRENDER. I’m thrilled to be here!
1.
What inspired you to become an author?
I’ve always enjoyed writing and after
college thought I wanted to write screenplays. I started a couple, but never
finished them. Once I had my kids, I did some freelance writing and while I was
writing short pieces for a website about weddings and brides a co-worker asked
if I’d ever written a romance novel before and if not then I should. A little
bell sounded in my head and I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do. I’d
never read romance before, though, so the first book I bought was The Bachelor
by Carly Phillips. I loved it and read all of her books after that. On her
website she included a ton of info for new writers and that’s really what
helped me get started. So I guess you could say she offered some great
inspiration for writing novels and I ran with it.
2.
Do you have a specific writing style?
I like to write on the lighter side, and
I’d like to think there’s some humor in there too.
3.
How did you come up with the title for your
latest book?
The first title I came up with was actually
Risky Business. I know, very unoriginal. Pair that with the movie and visions
of Tom Cruise sliding across the floor in his underwear that I couldn’t get out
of my head, and I knew I had to think of something better. All the books in my Take a Risk series have “risk” in the title, and once I realized it wasn’t really a
business deal my characters were making, but a sacrifice, I thought Risky Surrender
had a nice ring to it.
4.
Do you title the book first or wait until after
it’s complete?
I always title my books before I start
writing. I can’t even type the first word in a new book until I know what the
title is!
5.
If you had to choose, which writer would you
consider a mentor?
I’m very lucky that I actually have
one! Not long after I joined my local Romance Writers of America chapter, they
started a mentor/mentee program and I was paired with the amazing Charlene
Sands. She’s written over thirty books for Harlequin and not only is she my
mentor, but a close friend now, too. We talk about everything and she’s my
go-to gal whenever I have questions. There’s also one more writer that I’m
fortunate to consider a mentor and that’s Vicki Lewis Thompson. She’s been
incredibly generous to me with her guidance and friendship. I seriously pinch
myself to be sure I’m not dreaming these incredible authors are my friends. One
of the best things about my writing journey has been the wonderful writers I’ve
met and now call friend.
6.
What book are you reading now?
I’m reading Fake FiancĂ©, Real Revenge by
Roxanne Snopek. It’s the third book in her Three River Ranch series and I’m
loving it.
7.
What is your current “work in progress” or
upcoming projects?
Thanks for asking. I’ve just started
writing the next book in my Secret Wishes series for Entangled Publishing’s
Bliss line. After that it’s the next book in my Take a Risk series. Cross your fingers everyone, that my plan for
less sleep and giant daily word counts comes true. J
8.
Do you have to travel much to do research for
your books?
I wish I could! You can bet my settings would
definitely include, oh I don’t know, Paris, the Amalfi Coast, Ireland, Greece, Fiji,
or some other tropical paradise. I could go on and on. LOL In reality, I’m
lucky there is so much information available on the Internet. Aside from that,
I do tend to place my books in places I’ve been. Risky Surrender opens in San
Diego and then moves to Arizona, and I’ve been to both. One of the next books
in this series takes place on Kauai and I’ve been there, too. So what I can’t
recall from my experiences, I look up. I’m dreaming of traveling to Europe sometime
soon…
Thanks for the great questions, Roxanne! I’ve enjoyed
answering them. Now I’ve got a question for your readers… What’s your favorite
book setting? The beach? Mountains? City? I’d love to know.

Hi Roxanne! Thanks so much for having me!
Hi Elena! Thank you for stopping by here! You know, as long as I'm swept up in the love story, I don't really care about the setting either. :)
