Interview and Giveaway: Gargoyle’s Embrace by Lisa Carlisle

Do you write in different genres?

Yes, I write in many genres, including non-fiction, mystery, paranormal romance, and military romance.

If yes which is your favorite genre to write?

I love writing paranormal romance as the idea of an isolated, misunderstood figure finding true love greatly appeals to me.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

Well, I’ve been fascinated with gargoyles for over twenty years. Since it’s a romance and gargoyles are known for protection, the word embrace seemed to fit.

What book are you reading now?

Oh my, I have a stack in the living room with various books with bookmarks in them. I rarely read one book at a time, but skip from book to book depending on the time of day—and how much caffeine I’ve had. :) Currently, I’m reading a paranormal romance, a nonfiction book on justice, a book on writing, and the third Hunger Games book before my daughter swiped it.

What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?

I have three active projects. First, I’m finishing edits on a paranormal erotic romance with a gothic feel. Second, I’m working with my critique partners on a novel combining the paranormal, military, myth, and romance. And third, I finished the first draft of a paranormal erotic romance during NaNoWriMo, part of my series with Ellora’s Cave. More rock stars, gargoyles, and vampires.

Do you have to travel much to do research for your books?

I go to Cape Ann on the Massachusetts coast occasionally where my series is set. It’s really quite beautiful at the shore in Gloucester and I love walking around the art galleries in Rockport. You can see some photos on my website.

I often draw on my travels as well. When I was younger, I moved around in the military, living in Okinawa, Japan, which has a huge impact on my work. Also, I backpacked around Europe and lived in Paris for awhile so there are quite a few references to Paris, a city I love.

Who designed the cover of your latest book?

Syneca at Ellora’s Cave. She’s brilliant and I love every cover she’s done for me.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Make writing a priority. Don’t get discouraged. We all learn from mistakes and rejections; it happens to everyone.

Do you have a song or playlist that you think represents this book?

Yes. I create playlists for all my books. Certain characters have songs I associate with them and I try to include them for my readers.

For this particular book, I included a wonderful Nina Simone CD that Danton and Tracy listen to on their first morning together. Although she spends her nights bartending in a club that blares goth, punk, metal, and other types of rock, Tracy likes to unwind to something more soothing at home. This playlist has some romantic  songs, perfect for two people getting to know each other better and falling in love.

Book Description:

Fifth in the Underground Encounters series.

Tracy isn’t sure why she’s drawn to a particular gargoyle statue in the Goth club where she works. After the stone takes human form to protect her from her abusive ex, she brings the handsome, naked male to her apartment. It’s impossible to ignore the seductive appeal of a man sculpted like a Viking warrior.

Danton has only hours in human form to spend with the woman he has hungered for. He’s convinced what’s between them is more than hot sex, but he needs to convince Tracy of that before he turns back to stone.

A Romantica® paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

About the Author:

Lisa gravitates toward stories with dark, brooding, isolated characters (think Heathcliff, Dracula, Darth Vader and Severus Snape) and tough, independent, caring heroines. She’s wanted to write since the sixth grade and is thrilled to now be a multi-published, award-winning author.

She spent a short time in the Marine Corps, living in Parris Island, the California desert, and Okinawa, Japan. She then backpacked alone around the US and Europe and lived in Paris, France, before returning to the U.S. to buy a bookstore. Now she lives in New England with her husband and children and draws on these experiences in her stories.
