What inspired you to become an author?
Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be an
author. I grew up in a bad environment
and books were my salvation. When I was
sad or scared, I would pick up a book, read it and pretend that I was there. That way I could travel the world and go on
exciting adventures without ever leaving my bedroom. When I was in the fifth grade I started
writing my own adventures and that way I could choose where I went and what I
did, it was very freeing. My love of
reading stayed with me and to this day my favorite thing to do is read!
Do you write in different genres?
So far I have written two books: one was a book to
help abused children (part of my current career) and the other was my new
erotic romance. My future books will
most likely be erotic romances, but may be in different themes (fantasy,
historical, bondage, etc..).
How did you come up with the title for your latest
book?
I really struggled to come up with the title for my
book and along the way many titles were chosen and then thrown out. I just couldn’t come up with anything that
really encapsulated my entire book, then one night I was laying in bed thinking
about a name for the bistro and came up with Passion from the Vine. Then I flew out of bed and whooped because
that was it, the title for my book.
Is the book, characters, or any scenes based on a
true life experience, someone you know, or events in your own life?
I didn’t start off basing any characters on real
life individuals, but as I wrote I could see parts of myself, my daughters and
a few friends emerge. The mother
definitely has some of my snarky personality.
Some of the “scenes” were pulled from past
experiences and others were plucked from my imagination. My husband enjoyed being the guinea pig for
the hot scene experiments!
What books/authors have influenced your life?
My favorite genres are romance (all types) and
murder/mystery novels; however, I have read books from all genres and enjoyed
them. My favorite authors are Nora
Roberts, James Patterson, Johanna Lindsey, Steven King, Julie James, Jamie
McGuire and E.L. James.
All of these authors have influenced me in one way
or another; they have taught me to write about what I’m passionate about and
not to worry about offending others, because there are always those who are
“like minded”. They also make me smile
when I’m having a bad day.
If you had to choose, which writer would you
consider a mentor?
Nora Roberts, because I have read every one of her
books and loved each and every one of them.
If I could write as well as she does then I would consider myself a success.
What book are you reading now?
Inferno by Dan Brown and Effortless by SC Stephens:
so far I love both of them!
What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?
I’m very excited about my new writing project and
the sleepless nights are back. What
started as a thought has now bloomed into a new novel. I have started researching Avatar’s and brain
functioning for my new futurist novel. It
will be an erotic fantasy about the future and focus on the use of Avatars in
our lives. That is all I’m willing to disclose at this time!
Is there anything you find particularly challenging
in your writing?
To be honest my biggest hurdle is time! I have three
children, a home to maintain and am still working in my current career, so all
of you mothers know what I’m talking about when I say I have to still time away
to work on my novel and it’s not easy.
My goal is to someday generate enough income that I can write full time,
but I’m not there yet.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Write about what you are passionate about and don’t
rush it. When you submit to publishers
and they reject your work, don’t give up because someday they will regret it!
Writing is a long and painful process, but if it is your dream you can make it
become a reality. There is nothing like
holding your own book and seeing your picture on the back cover.

About the Author:
Shannon Casey was born in Turlock, California, the second oldest of eight children. Being the only girl she had to use her imagination to entertain herself. She was also a tom boy who never let the fact that she was a girl slow her down. She learned to ride horses better than the boys and practiced her hand at roping and barrel racing.
She married her high school sweet heart during her senior year and became a mother at seventeen, but she didn’t let that slow her down. Her daughter became her motivation to obtain her college degree and create a better life for them. Shannon graduated from CSU Stanislaus in 1997 and soon after had her second daughter. She went on to obtain two master degrees in psychology, two credentials and a private license.
During her career as a psychologist she never gave up her dream of becoming an author, but as the years passed she never found the time to actually write. Like most people, the daily grind and spending time with her children took precedence over her desire to create.
Then she met her second husband, Corey Casey, through her older brother Anthony. They married in March 2008. When her son was born in July 2009 it was the perfect time for her to cut her hours to part time. Corey inspired her to pick up her pen and write, telling her that she would never know unless she tried. Since that time, she has written her first novel, traveled and found her creative outlet.
