Interview and Giveaway Destiny Finds Her by Miranda Lynn

What inspired you to become an author?

I was inspired by my reading. I wanted to create worlds and characters that people could imagine and escape into. I wanted people to be able to pick up my writing and lose track of time in my world.

Do you write in different genres?

I do, Destiny is the first in the time travel series, but I also have another series in progress that is of the paranormal genre. Though they both have twists outside the normal genre stereotypes. Destiny has magic and fae twisted into it and the paranormal series will have voodoo twisted into it.

If yes which is your favorite genre to write?

I don’t think I can pick a favorite. Whichever characters are speaking to me that day is my favorite. I love them both.

How did you come up with the title for your latest book?

The book actually gave me the title. I didn’t know what to call it at first but as I read through it on my first revision the word Destiny jumped out at me several times. I took it from there.

Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?

For the first I waited until it was complete. With book two that may be different, I don’t have a title yet, but it’s only about a third of the way finished.

What book are you reading now?

I am currently reading Seventh Grave and No Body by Darynda Jones. I love her books!

What books are in your to read pile?

I have so many. The newest ones are The Maiden of Ireland by Susan Wiggs, Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis, The Jewel by Amy Ewing, Redeemed by P.C. Cast +Kristen Cast,  Witches of East End by Melissa De La Cruz, Serpent’s Kiss by Melissa De La Cruz, and Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. Those are just from my local library I have many more on my Kindle by some amazing Indie Authors, the most recent is Artifact by K T Bowes, Ocean’s Justice by Demelza Carlton, and Hitched by Karpove Kinrade

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Here is a bit from my current WIP.

“As you know many people call me Madame Levoux, though I am not the original. She is buried in one of the most visited tombs in the world. She is my ancestor though so I have the right to use her name. Many of my gifts I have inherited from her as well. What many don’t know is that I had a sister.”

She paused to refill her mug and mine. I was relaxed, warm, and eager to hear more.

“My sister and I were about 2 years apart, she being the older of course. We were both taught our craft from a very young age, but we had very different gifts. Hers were a bit more disturbing and she had a difficult time handling them as we grew.”

This was the reason I had come. I didn’t know my mother, but had heard many rumors about her. I had spent the last two years digging through them all and I had come to the conclusion that the only truth was the she was related to the Levoux family. How I didn’t know, no one would tell me. I didn’t remember much about her and my father wouldn’t speak of her. I asked every time he came home, but those times had been few and far between these past years.

“What was her name?” I asked

Madam Levoux looked straight at me. “Clarice”

My mother’s name. It was then that I noticed her eyes were just like mine. Tricolored. Her eyes seemed to capture me and I sank into their depths. The room faded away and was replaced with a small wooden shack. I looked around and found Madam Levoux next to me.

“I thought it easier to show you my story. Talking gets so boring don’t you think?”

I nodded and looked around “Where are we?”

“My child hood home. As I told you, your mother and I were sisters. This is our story.”

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Hmm. Well I would say my biggest challenge is putting enough description in on the first draft. I am all about getting to the action, dialogue, character interaction. I always have to go and work on the buildup of tension and suspense when I do my first revisions. I have a great support group of critique partners, editor and beta readers that help me with that as well.

Do you have to travel much to do research for your books?

I didn’t for the Destiny series, but will be traveling to New Orleans in the next couple of months to help build up the paranormal series I am writing. I am very excited about that, a quick weekend trip to soak it all in.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Don’t give up! Keep writing, the more you write the better you will get. Find a good critique partner who is honest with you and be willing to accept their thoughts and input. I had great advice given to me a few years ago and I always share it. Write the story you want to read.

Again, I want to thank Roxanne for having me, I had a blast answering these questions and I hope you enjoyed reading them.
