Guest Blog - Crosswind by G.L. Ross

Over a year ago, Roxanne put out a request for a new Bewitching Blog Talk Radio host. Since my Bachelors is in Radio and Television Performance, my curiosity was piqued. She hired me faster than Samantha wiggles her nose on Bewitched. I had absolutely no idea how blog talk radio worked. After a few mistakes, I found my way and thoroughly enjoy each interview.

After college, I worked as a cable sports announcer and played with radio a bit doing voice overs. Radio was never my emphasis, but I enjoy Bewitching Blog Talk Radio and learning about each author and their book. Many authors are excited to be interviewed, but some are a nervous wreck. I have to pull information from them. I understand their discomfort.

They’re used to the typed word, not necessarily expressing themselves verbally. Don’t get me wrong, many LOVE to talk. My job is easy when I interview this type. These authors want to discuss what makes their character special, why their book is their baby, and how they became an author. I begin each interview finding out about the author personally: where they live, family, hobbies, and let me tell you they love discussing their pets.

The best compliment I’ve received, from several authors, is the fact they enjoyed our time together. They had fun and forgot it was an interview. My goal is to have a conversation with a friend over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. I hope you will join my next chat with my new friend.

They are settling into their smooth sailing, happily reacquainted life when Lance’s flyboys are called to Afghanistan. This disruption is nothing compared to the turbulent arrival of Lance’s long lost half-brother, fighter pilot Derek Fuller. Derek’s arrival may cause Lisa’s path to be completely rerouted.

Excerpt 2

Lance insists we say our good-byes at the house. I plead for him to allow me to take him to the airport, but he knows we will both end up in tears and doesn’t want that to be his last memory. Instead we share our last thoughts over breakfast, then sit by the pool holding each other, until his ride arrives. My heart breaks. I fight back the tears. I will not let his last memory of me be crying. Wrapping my arms around his waist, I press my head against his chest, inhaling his spicy scent. I listen to the rhythmic sound of his heart beating. I attempt to memorize the feel of his arms around me. Our lips meet and I plead with his soul to return home to me. His strong hands hold the side of my head. Firm, yet tender, lips press to my forehead and the crown of my head. He clings to me one last time and whispers, “I love you, Goddess, more than life itself. You’re my home, my heart.”
“Then every night before you go to sleep imagine you’re in my arms. Imagine you’re home. Come home to me, Flyboy.”
His eyes fill with tears, before walking out the front door. I lean against the door frame praying he will turn and look at me. Please, Lance. Please look at me one more time. I need to see your sparkling blue eyes, your trademark smirk. He tosses his bags in the trunk. The back of his hand wipes away a tear, before threading through his hair. I then remember the picture I’d pulled out for him to take. I quickly grab it and run out the door toward him.
“Lance, wait.”
He looks at me and I freeze in my tracks. My fierce warrior’s face is covered in tears. “Oh, baby.” I spread kisses across every inch of his tense cheeks. Kissing away every salty tear. “I forgot to give you this picture.”
And then I receive the smirk…his eyes sparkle, staring at the picture of me in lace lingerie. “When?” I adore the fact he looks identical to the cat who caught the canary.
“I arranged it the day you were at the attorney’s office.”
“Now I want to carry you back into the house,” he half-laughs, stroking my upper arm.
With my hands on his hips, I instruct, “Every morning and evening you look at that picture and remember all of this is waiting for you at home.”
“Coming home to you is imprinted in my heart, sassy lady. I’m crazy about the picture, and I love the woman in it.” Our lips clash one final time. He climbs into the cab. Holding my hand through the lowered window, he says, “I’ll call you tonight from Georgia.”
“I’ll be waiting.”
“I’m coming home to you.” His jaw clenches. His Adam’s apple bobs.

Forcing a smile, I reply, “I’m trusting you.” He presses the picture to his heart and blows me a kiss. The cab disappears from view. I continue standing in the front yard tattooing the picture of our final goodbye into my memory.

About the Author:

G.L. Ross is a proud, sixth generation, native Texan. As a true Southern Belle, G.L. has always dreamt of the “happily ever after,” the prince riding in on the white horse sweeping her off her feet. She hasn’t found “Prince Charming” – yet (always an optimist) – but finds him every time she writes about her characters’ “happily ever after” endings.

Her motto in life is to “always find the good” in every person and situation. Whether through laughter, prayer, music, or a glass of wine or vodka, G.L. finds the good in life and shares her sense of humor, love, and adventure in her stories. Each book will inspire you to stand strong in faith and believe in second chances. Take flight with Lance & Lisa in Turbulent Passion, Burning Desire, and Crosswind (The Flyboy Trilogy). After twenty-seven years as a Flight Attendant, G.L. has incredible and often humorous insight into the aviation industry. She shares many of these stories in the Flyboy Trilogy. Plus, you must meet hunky rancher, Graham Gaskin, in A Rose Has Thorns…he is hot! Fall in love with Rachel and Brooks in The Strength of Love, an Inspirational Romance and recipient of the Reader’s Favorite 5 Star Seal.
